lj, if you want me to leave, just say 'I'd prefer you went to another blogging service.' You needn't keep dropping these hints.

Happy Camping

ETA: Not so happy camping. Why does bloody lj stick certain posts from abroad in among the FL entries I've already read? [livejournal.com profile] radiofreebanri and [livejournal.com profile] jttr show up a day later than they should have. It's pure accident that I saw the latest gaiden ep at banri. Sheesh. (Goes to change FL page to show=50)

The new Bleach illustration album on amazon.jp is advertised as BLECHイラスト集. It really *is* called All Colour But The Black, yes with that u in it. I am consoled for all the times I've confused my radicals (性 牲, 精 請) when reading too fast, as likewise my inability to tell is it wa or is it ga.

Otherwise I want to read an mjj story and am still tripping over the fact that if I want to read it I have to write it first. Surely there's a mistake there somewhere?

Otherwise the vagaries of broadband keep me running winipcfg, to which my mind always remarks 'twoipbyc.'

Dear lj. Dear bloody lj. I wondered why I was suddenly getting absurd amounts of spam again and all of it in multiples. Well, it's that (lj username)@livejournal.com address they give you. They gave their sponsors access to it et voilà.

So to circumvent it, go to admin console and enter
set no_mail_alias 1
This does not stop comment notification, apparently, but I shall hope it stops my spam.

I may be the last to know anything, but both [livejournal.com profile] stormcloude and I were being driven mad by lj timing us out yesterday. The helpful [livejournal.com profile] domacatrix provided the cure:
some of the new changes LJ implemented--namely, that box that appears when you hover over a LJ user gif--make the site run a little slow. You can turn that option off by visiting the Viewing Options page and unchecking the "show contextual popup" box.
I'd lj cut that but if you're being timed out by lj the cut might not load. ^^;;

Thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] domacatrix

Plotting the story Thursday on a happy cicada singing afternoon with a warm sun, I decided to have a typhoon hit Tokyo to bring about some necessary action. Today as I write it is typhooning, in its civil TO fashion, out the windows. Most helpful of the elements. Helps me get the feeling right.

(I wanted to call it pathetic fallacy but of course it's not. And I was quite old before I realized the pathetic part wasn't an opprobrious dismissal. '(sneer) What a pathetic fallacy!')

(And shall I mention how I loathe lj's browse function for user pics, which I always click by accident? The little x that should banish it at once doesn't work and I have to select and enter before it goes away. Why don't they give a list of tags instead?)

So much for the autosave function. 'When you return to the update screen you will be prompted from the autosave.' No. Save as private post if you must dash off to buy milk before finishing the update.

ETA: See. This is why I don't want to stop reading fanficrants. Umlaut. I'm enchanted. I want to write umlaut. I just can't think of any canonically gay characters to write it with and any females to pair them with. Maybe I'll just go back to trying some of those narrative tricks the Chinese writers do in their fics, the ones that [livejournal.com profile] paleaswater keeps talking about.

OK. I need an alternative to lj. I don't want to see the stupid fugly navigation strip that they slapped on my lj today. I disenabled it in my own preferences- do not show it in mine, do not show it in others. But evidently unless an lj owner has disenabled it in their own options, I'm going to see the stupid fugly navigation strip. So to a bunch of lj-community owners- disenable the fugly navigation strip please.

Of course this is a good way of breaking the fanficrants habit. But it'll only drive me to the journalfen wank communities aka The Sheep Look Up, and the pickings there are much much worse. No really- they are.

So now my friends-locked posts aren't showing up in my friends' FLs. How come?

Flipping lj has logged me out five times this evening. Screw them.

I was thinking about that panel with Goujun writing his memoirs or whatever they are, and the scar through his eye. Why does post-Apocalypse Goujun only have one eye? And then the obvious answer occurred to me. No, *not* 'somebody took it out with a sword.' Not at all. It's so that he can be a clever historical reference. If you have a dragon (I learned this from Shibata Ami) he must be a one-eyed dragon. What am I talking about? Google 'dokugan ryu' and you'll find out.

Lj's most recent status update was last Wednesday about a last Wednesday problem. I've been regularly finding myself logged out since then. Anyone know what's up? ie is it them or is it me?

The gripes of wrath

(I know. Someone must have used that before me and said this before me. Kamawan'. It's my turn now.)

Would it be so difficult for livejournal to distinguish between 'people I want to read' and 'people I want to read me'? I know there are filters, but it's extra steps to add people to filters when I've friended them, and extra steps to go to 'custom' when I post what ought to be a simple friends-locked post. Ordinarily I just go to the journal itself to read someone I don't feel like addressing, but there's this current fashion for eye-searing colours and tiny fonts. If I want them in black on white, I have to friend them. Pfui.

(PS: The gripes are not sweetened by the current rabbit-eyed headcold-and-allergy cocktail.)

Of lj styles

The thing I like about Pumpkin Eloquent is that it displays readably at whatever resolution I use (unless someone uploads a horking big graphic, usually from a quizilla test.) Most other styles, for whatever reason, don't: they slop off the page unless I up the resolution to something that gives me headaches like, say, 800x600. ^^;; Sunshiny I say this is all to the good since it stops me procrastinating by reading other people's f-lists- all that scrolling back and forth gets tiresome, however fascinating the discussions may be.

[livejournal.com profile] mikeneko however has a twist in her new layout. Scrolling down doesn't just make the text move upwards. As it moves upwards it reassembles itself at each scroll. [livejournal.com profile] tpod has this problem feature as well, and I've wondered why it happens. I can't see anything in the coding that would do it. Anybody know?

Not a fan of these colours, but lj no longer recognizes my attempts at customization. At least I won't keep on confusing my lj with [livejournal.com profile] incandescens'.

ETA: that did it. All one needs to do is erase customizations and start from scratch. Welcome back, my April pinks.
