I may be the last to know anything, but both [livejournal.com profile] stormcloude and I were being driven mad by lj timing us out yesterday. The helpful [livejournal.com profile] domacatrix provided the cure:
some of the new changes LJ implemented--namely, that box that appears when you hover over a LJ user gif--make the site run a little slow. You can turn that option off by visiting the Viewing Options page and unchecking the "show contextual popup" box.
I'd lj cut that but if you're being timed out by lj the cut might not load. ^^;;

Thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] domacatrix

Thank you. I didn't know where was an options page at all!

OMG indeed. How can you operate without the options page that allows you to opt out of all the new lj bright ideas? And yes, it's terribly well-hidden on the new Horizon layout they foisted on everybody unless you specifically went and checked the layout you prefer.

Thanks. I'd noticed, and been irritated by, the popup boxes, so it's goo to know how to turn them off.

I was ready to blame AOL yet again before I saw your helpful post. Guess the powers-that-be enjoy finding new ways to torture us "old fossils" still using dial-up. (Me, I'd rather spend money on something other than an overpriced high-speed connection...like, oh, I don't know, food and rent perhaps? *sigh*)

Many thanks to both of you.

You may still blame AOL, or possibly lj for some other idiocy, because I have broadband and it's crawling again. Maybe it's partly an IE problem, but Firefox is dragging on me too. Or maybe it's my broadband itself acting up. Oh happy day. (goes away to read a book.)

:D There's an option to make the box go away! Thank you so much for posting about that.
