I believe it's the 9th in Japan now?

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] shiny_monkey. Next year in Toronto south-western Ontario someplace.

A lot of people were seriously discombobulated about lj not emailing them people's comments, or notice of people's comments, or whatever it is lj does. Possibly an oddity of my own, but what's the fun in having lj tell you that you've got comments? It not only spams your inbox, it deprives you of the pleasure of going to your journal and seeing that there are comments and clicking to see who they're from. Like back in the days of snail mail when I'd call home from work and ask if I'd gotten any mail. My roomies had to be instructed to answer simply yes or no, and not 'A postcard from your friend Rita in England and a letter from your aunt and something that seems to be a card from someone called Laura McLaren.'

(And why were people so discombobulated at not being notified? Couldn't they have just gone to their ljs and looked to see if there were comments? I feel I'm missing something here.)

Comments in one's own journal aren't the problem, it's the comments one left in other people's journals, sometimes in passing on non-flisters or communities, and then forgot about (if you're like me). If there's an answer to one of those and no email notification, it's well and truly lost. Not a disaster or anything in most cases but then nothing on LJ is.

Also after a while of no notifications one begins to realise that one is... refreshing own LJ... too often... sitting there and... waiting... XD

Mind you I keep my email open in a browser tab all day just so I know immediately if I've got a comment.

But with all that not getting notifications for a while isn't discombobulating. When they fix the problem and you start getting notifications from 2-3 weeks back - that's discombobulating.

Mh. Didn't realize 'receive comment notification e-mails' would pull in replies outside your own journal. Unfortunately you can't get those and not get all replies to your own journal entries, which still adds up to spoilerage and spam.

I think it is possible, though I haven't tried it. You can set the default to receive comment notifications, but set comments to not email when you post in your own lj. Though that is a bit troublesome.

Eh, they should maybe allow for default settings for personal ljs and for other ljs. ^^;

Thank you =) I'm officially feeling old today (35).

I hadn't realised I wasn't getting email notifications until I got up this morning and had gotten a crapload of email notifications from nearly a week ago, most of which were needless anyway since I'd already seen the messages in Other People's Blogs. I get the notifications because in doing a 9-5 (well, 10-6) and that being on a computer, sometimes it's nice to know who's replied to what (in other words, I'm a lazy ass).

Happy happy birthday, from all of us to you! We wish it was our birthday, so we could party too! Hey!!

(See you in a couple weeks!) :D

Happy Birthday! You have the same birthday as my mom.

Happy birthday to your mom!! =D

And I will take note of your birthday. It sucks to have a birthday so close to Christmas since so many people will just combine your Christmas and birthday celebrations (and worse, presents), as [livejournal.com profile] joasakura knows all too well!!

You know, now that I'm older, it's not so bad. Helps to fill that weird week between Christmas and New Year's. And all those 2's and 7's in my date are somehow pleasing to me. I'd say good numerical feng shui except with my luck, their proximity and order probably signify something horrible. XD

In any case, I hope you had a great day!

It's barely started ^_- I'm forcing the other foreigners to take me out to lunch, so it'll be a decent day at the very least =D

And we'll all wish hard for the good feng shui for your 2's and 7's. It's got to be significant somehow and you can't have gotten to this age with thoroughly bad luck, right? =D

Same as [livejournal.com profile] petronia. Just makes it easy to keep on top of the various conversations you're having. Also I have my e-mail client set up to funnel all LJ comment posts into an LJ folder which gives me the ability to search posts as well as comments (as the entire post the comment is addressing is included in the e-mail) for the various wise things people have written months after the fact. Helpful if you're like me and have a tendency to forget just who wrote about something and when.
