ETA: See. This is why I don't want to stop reading fanficrants. Umlaut. I'm enchanted. I want to write umlaut. I just can't think of any canonically gay characters to write it with and any females to pair them with. Maybe I'll just go back to trying some of those narrative tricks the Chinese writers do in their fics, the ones that [livejournal.com profile] paleaswater keeps talking about.

OK. I need an alternative to lj. I don't want to see the stupid fugly navigation strip that they slapped on my lj today. I disenabled it in my own preferences- do not show it in mine, do not show it in others. But evidently unless an lj owner has disenabled it in their own options, I'm going to see the stupid fugly navigation strip. So to a bunch of lj-community owners- disenable the fugly navigation strip please.

Of course this is a good way of breaking the fanficrants habit. But it'll only drive me to the journalfen wank communities aka The Sheep Look Up, and the pickings there are much much worse. No really- they are.

This might work? (http://community.livejournal.com/no_lj_ads/21475.html)

Lux Knows Everything. Still. Thanks so much!

Lux Knows Everything Spends Too Much Time on LJ. I have the navstrip on - I didn't realize it was showing for everyone. Sorry about that. ^_^;;

I don't actually go to your lj, which is probably why it's never bothered me if my friends do it. That's what FLs were created for, along with avoiding small fonts and odd colour combinations. But the communities are lurk-places for me- couldn't bear to have ffr popping up every five minutes if I friended it.

Ah, that's good to know. I have the same issue with some of the communities on my FL. Too much traffic to be comfortable with, yet the occasional gem means I can't de-friend them without thinking I'm going to miss something. I've resorted to using a selective community filter, but I forget to check it more often than not.

Sooo, like, "Don't use 'slash'!" And "Don't use 'femmeslash'!" And "Don't use 'yaoi'!" And "Don't use 'wienerschnitzel'!"? I s'pose these reminders that people have seriously peculiar pet peeves is useful -- the corollary would be that mine own are equally odd. :P

Re: stripping. As happens, I'd not mind having a navigation strip (-if- it had items on it that I use often). But this one's a no-go. At the font sizes I normally use, it's completely mashed together and useless. Oh well.
