There's a bridge in Angst-Morfrog Ankh-Morpork called Pon's and another called Contract. There's also a robin's nest with three eggs in it in a low crook of the front yard tree, handy for cats and raccoons, which may yet survive. (My s-i-l says the tree's a birch, the city department that planted it said it was an ironwood. This doesn't mean my s-i-l is wrong, of course.) The plum blossoms are all out in the back yard and the cherry blossoms are as ever neck and neck with the leaves to see which will come out first. Thus my small happinesses for the day.

Otherwise, ancient manga )

I can't remember what I did this week but the size of my paycheque suggests I worked. Money is good, but I'm tired and have a persistent crick in my neck and my feet have been cramping these last three days to the point where I must take taxis. Cannot bike: snow and ice and slick streets. Sniff.

However a small parcel was waiting for me in the mailbox today. 'Good, my Christmas cards from Riverkids, I'll spend the weekend writing Christmas cards,' I thought. But no. It was vols 1-3 of Silver Diamond from jpqueen. I can take a hint. I shall spend the weekend reading Silver Diamond.

This explains why I'm now reading Godchild 3. )

I had to go back to vol 9 before I found some remotely familiar action. Read along thinking 'hmm not as bad as I remember it'; but of course I was reading it back in 1998 which was one of those barren periods in my life when everything... doesn't go wrong in any definable way, but simply loses its joy. Dunno why. It just happens. I spent the summer down on the Island reading AS and YYH: and YYH too has the same slight queasiness attached to it in my memory.

I had the sudden urge to start finishing Angel Sanctuary (because there's at least five or six manga left to go, longer than some series) but when I looked to see where I left off and to find a familiar plot point... I couldn't. Apparently I've never seen any of this before. That means I have to re-read AS in its entirety. So, you know, laters.

Because the Onmyouji novels are much better anyway. Finished the story that Onmyouji 1 was largely based on, with chivalrous!Hiromasa being more generous than most western paladins ever were (possible exception: Let never a man a-wooing wend that lacketh thinges three/ A store of gold, an open heart, and full of charity) and now the plot-bunnies are raising snuffly noses from out the deep grasses around Seimei's house. I wait only for them to emerge. In time, all in good time.
