Alive. Unlike last weekend, spent this weekend being social: out of town friend came here Friday and Saturday, today I went out of town. Saw pumpkins growing in a field, which is a first for me. Had two Vietnamese coffees and am yawning at 10:30 instead of being awake till 6 am as expected.

Also reading The Seven Per Cent Solution which is possibly the best Holmes pastiche encountered so far.

The Seven Per Cent Solution is one of my favourites. (He wrote a couple of other Holmes pastiches as well, and while they're fun, they're not quite as brilliant.) Even the movie is well done.

I thought it rather descended into melodrama by the end and that mad train chase/ duelling with sabres on train roofs, but then I suppose it was *meant* to.

Well, yes. True. And the white horses and all. But it was fun. :)

(Checking my shelf, I see that the author also wrote the pastiches The West End Horror and The Canary Trainer: both are fun, but The Seven Per Cent Solution is definitely best.)
