Woe is me

Whoever told me there were 25 volumes of FMA lied like a rug. There are 28, and I must wait yet a while to discover what happens. I could order it in Japanese, I suppose, but money is currently being funneled into Teeth, the perpetual bugbear. How a twenty year old root canal can develop an infection of the bone, I do not know, but it has and I suffer, as Catullus said. I see the specialist in September to find out whether they must redo the whole operation. 'We wouldn't take the crown off, just drill through it.' This sounds like my notion of a really bad idea.

Also I find Donald Thomas' Holmes pastiches something less than satisfactory. Most people's Holmes pastiches are less than satisfactory, by me, even Ronald Knox's.

OW... ow...ow....ow..ow! I hope they decide to do something other than drill too because it speaks of unspeakeable pain. Hope it gets sorted out soon. *HUG*

Oh, I am frozen like a popsicle for these things and never notice. people hold their hearts over root canals and I never know what the fuss is all about. *Extractions*, dear god yes. Hurt worse than being sideswiped by a car. But root canals can bite me.

That sounds really painful. I'm sorry!
How do you like FMA? I still haven't done more than dabble my toes in the edges of the fandom, but it seems to be really popular.

At the moment merely slightly uncomfortable.

I like the manga well enough to keep buying and reading it in English. One of the better translations I've come across, sensibly edited. If it doesn't grab me completely-- well, it's shounen, and fairly complex and sophisticated shounen ie not mere yaoi fodder, and I'm reading it in English which has a reverse language scrim, and mmmh there's no archetypes in it to press my buttons, though there are moments here and there, the most impressive being a m/f one.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback.
I might try and find it here.

Much, much sympathy.

Hm. I'd seen that one on amazon, and been pondering whether or not to try it, as Holmes pastiches can be very variable. I shall be warned, and prioritise it lower down my scale to a "maybe-pick-up-if-knocking-around-cheap". Many thanks.

Or a library copy. Can do without admiring Dr Watson saying 'Holmes had just definitively proved' some point at issue, when he hasn't proved anything of the sort.

Getting it right is a fine, fine line to walk.

I fell away from FMA out of exhaustion (somewhere in the volume teens, I think), but I'd really like to finish it someday, too. But ... oh lord, there's so much of it ... This may never occur.

(I love Holmes pastiches -- when they contain Holmes/Watson. Otherwise, no. I am shallow that way.)

O_O (!)

Read in English FMA whisks along, with a little confusion as to is where when and why. If you ever have a day free you could get through the last ten vols or so. Angel Sanctuary it isn't.

I'm not sure it's an infection so much as an inflammation. It's the tooth I bite down hard on when grinding my teeth and it's had about three inflammations in the last five years because of it.

That story's looking marvellous. Thank you!

Oh no! Best wishes for speedy treatment and healing.
