I fail at mindfulness

Bookfast lasted about as long as one might expect ie I finished my Mary Russell on Monday evening, turned to the book pile, couldn't face Ackroyd, couldn't face Chatwin, couldn't face anything serious when it's hot and muggy and they're going to open up my eye in two weeks Aaaaaaunghhh, and Tuesday morning bought the next Mary Russell mystery. Which was unreadable. So went to library and got the Russell with all the back story in it. Have been reading that in these latter blinded days. (I mean everyone is blinded, not just me. Allergies and pollens and humidity gives universal gunk in eyes. Mine is just compounded by contacts and cataracts.)

Next month. Maybe.

Entirely understandable. I don't suppose I can send you anything that you're looking for from England? Upcoming cataract ops demand something to take your mind off them.

(It's been fairly high-pollen over here too, I think. A lot of people, including me, have been sneezing and dabbing at their eyes.)

Thank you. I can't think of anything I want just now (though I probably will in a day or two), and the Unread Bookshelf would reproach me mightily if I did.

Fair point.

I've been tearing horribly with allergies, and it's been messing with my abilities to see.

Sympathies on the AAaaaaaughhhhh!!

Operations are always AAaaaaaughhhhh!! The up side is that this one will cure some of the current complaints.

I feel for you.
My sister tells me it's amazingly hot in Toronto these days.

I'm disheartened when an Indian says it's amazingly hot in Toronto, just as when a Russian says it's intensely cold, and now I've heard both. Granted the humidex was 42, still... Of course now it's autumn, grey and 20 and much much better.

XD

Yes, but we are feeble Indians, having lived much of our lives outside India and therefore less doughty and heat-resistant than the normal variety.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's reassuring. If 'outside India' means the draughtier reaches of the British Isles, then yes, TO is hot. I was thinking 'born in India, lived in Australia, thinks this is hot, oh woe there is no hope for my city.'

Sympathetic yow on the allergies. Have you anything like an air purifier down there? They work pretty well for us. I used to have a personal one I could carry around, but it gave up the ghost a while back.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
A personal air purifier sounds nice. I have one in the bedroom but it's noisy and I suspect not that efficient. The real problem in any case is wearing contacts in the daytime when the eyes are both dry and gunky, and only autumn solves that one. Though saline helps.

My sympathies on the heat and pollen. We've got pollen, but no heat yet.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The heat has gone, and the pollen will go. Though so far it's shaping up to be a Seattle summer. July may be another story, of course.

*HUGS* - sympathies. I hope the high humidity and the high pollen count clear up soon.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Humidity no more clears up in a TO summer than it does in a Singapore one. ^_^ The pollen-- ah well, I like my trees and I like my flowers and this is the price one pays for both.
