Thick brown paper parcel in the mailbox when I finally get home, eleven hours after leaving. My winter WARD, finally. Am too exhausted to care (9-6 day with half hour break. At least I got a break. Two other people didn't. Yes of course this is illegal but we're casual workers, not protected by the union.)

Eat my green dragon roll, go to turn off lights and have bath and early bed before doing it all over again tomorrow. Decide to have a look at the marshmallow king of the youkai to renew my spirits. Package is not from Kinokuniya after all. (I did think it a little short for a phonebook. Not much, just a bit.) It's from an anonymous somewhere in Mississauga, the vast wasteland to the west of Toronto. Intrigued, I cut it open. (I'll learn eventually; people really do send letter bombs to strangers.)

My Woxin DVDs have arrived. Oh come swiftly glorious weekend and take my soul to rest.

I think they were going off some standard interpretation of the story. Cause when I mentioned to one of the relief staff (from HK) that I'd ordered it and wrote out the name, being unable to pronounce it in any way a speaker of any form of Chinese could understand, she told me it was all about this wicked tyrant who came to understand the error of his ways after being conquered.

See, I think it's like periods- friends should all be watching Woxin together if they're in synch. Instead we go in cycles- paleaswater has a go at it a year ago, rasetsunyo is finishing off just as I start, you'll be watching probably as I finish, and so on.

I'll be watching very slowly because the subtitles are both small and fast, so it may be a while yet before I get through dynastic manipulations to any Interesting Observations. Though after one ep, I'll say the Princess of Yue is cool and the Chancellor of Wu doesn't look like anyone I'd want to trust at all. 'Look' being the operative word here, because this is pretty much picture reading with a general grasp of what's going on, and all nuance lost.

I need a cast list though- pausing and looking at flickering hanzi is driving me bats.

Once again my computer refuses to show images, rendering the name list a bit useless. (I really wish I could figure out why that happens, but googling suggests only telling IE and firefox to 'show images.' Which I've done, but half of cat macros and all moving icons still don't show.)

Don't bother- I'll make notes every time they freeze frame and eventually it'll get clear, I hope.

I took one look at the site heading (卧薪尝胆之英雄美人 Heros and Beauties of Woxinchangdan) and my first instinct was to peg Gou Jian as a beauty rather than a hero. Must be all those bbs squeals of 勾践美人。8D

Particularly since on the first page of the website, they have Gou Jian on one side, and Fu Chai on the other. Obviously one's the beauty and the other's the hero. :P
