Because I feel ijiwaru I shall post the translation to the spring Gaiden episode that hasn't yet appeared online. Well, not on many people's line, whatever.

Tenpou: Nothing of the sort. I just get on best with people who like joking too.

I was a little puzzled as of why he asked Goku if he was scared of him but it makes sense, Goku has never seen Tenpou as the Marshal, only as Ten-niichan. His response is not surprising XD (that little Monkey is too cute for me to resist, he makes me cry and smile. I have to say that when I see anything with Anpan man on it, I smile!).
Much love to you.

. . .
ANYWAY, while I'm in the vicinity, this has to do with that other thing the other day, regarding Hakkai the Secretly Simmering Pot of Psychosis. It (belatedly) prodded to mind a humor fanfic called "The Monkey (http://web.archive.org/web/20030831110137/http://fix.dejabu.org/monkey.html)" (durendal and The Beef Chick):
Gojyo: Shut up! Oi, Sanzou, er, Sanzou-sama (and I'm not making fun of you this time!), I had nothing to do with this. It was all Hakkai's idea. He wanted something to kill.
Hakkai: I'll kill you! I mean, maa.

[delurk]
The translation is lovely! And someone on a community I'm in provided this link to scans of the chapter (http://www.melbournego.com/Gaiden/Ward__12/chinese/01.htm) (not actually in Japanese), for people who need it.
Re: [delurk]
Yes, I was going form KaKa's scans too, fortunately before she did the Chinese scanlation to them. I think the Japanese version may still be somewhere on her site; but in any case Kagenami should be home soon from vacation and we can look forward to the radiofreebanri version with commentary.
Re: [delurk]
Ahh--if it's someone you know, I should ask--I looked around the site when I got the link, but didn't see any English terms of service. Does the person who does the scans mind if the link is passed around? (Which seems silly to ask after the fact, but if they object I'll be less casual about it. My primary fandom is touchy about that kind of thing. :/)

Wow...just, wow. I am in continual awe of the way Minekura-sensei drew Tenpou's and Kenren's faces here...and the shot of Tenpou's lanky hair spilling over the back of his shoulders, it's as if I could almost reach out and touch it (but I'd probably want to wash it for him first. *grin*)

It's a little like watching a crash unfold; I know what's gong to happen, but I need to watch for glimmers of hope.
You'd think a long time Doctor Who fan would have a better grasp of twisted tenses.
Can I just ask? Is this ambiguous in the original in the same way as the English can be, or is a very different construction?
no subject
Not ambiguous at all. I suppose it should be something like 'along with you' or 'by your side' to avoid that interpretation. The original ep, now in Gaiden 2, has Tenpou telling his men to stay back while he takes on a bunch of large and dangerous youkai beasts alone, nearly getting himself killed, having Kenren disobey orders to come save his neck, and the other men yelling 'Marshal are you alright!' 'Marshal, we're with you!' Kenren points out, understandably testy, that they're *Tenpou's* men and they want to work alongside him as any soldiers would. Tenpou has had a subordinate die on him in the past and, the implication is, doesn't want to repreat the experience.
(I should note, because I'm a grammar geek, that Japanese has a good and much used construction to express 'have someone die on you' with connotations of all the trouble that caused you. Tenpou doesn't use it. He uses the causative which means both make and let: I let one of my men die, I made one of my men die, with connotations of personal responsibility.)

Thank you sosososososososo much for the wonderful translation! That was awesome! *me friends you xD*
And weeeeeh, Kaka´s site is the best! I loved the 2nd picture of this season´s volume... *-* Look at the way Konzen is holding Goku! So sweet! (and tragic, in a way ._.)

Maybe it's just me, but this episode has me both cheering our foursome onwards and gnawing my knuckles in dread. Things have gone fairly well for their "escape" so far (even for Goku) that I just know deep down in my guts that somebody is waiting patiently at the dimensional gate/portal for their arrival. I'm not the betting kind, since I always lose...but my money's on Nataku. (And I don't think he'll be holding a fruit basket.)

The article's here (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/30/health/30pain.html) but it may requires logging in or bug me not-ing to read. Not sure if this has been considered in your case or not, so I just mention.

P.17 Soldier: 'In the absence of orders take personal responsibility'- that's our squadron's motto, right?
And then Tenpou does, when he orders his men to kill the others. It seems like he ordered them to do that so they wouldn't get into trouble later. But still, it's quite shocking to hear him say that, and I wonder if that's part of the reason why he asks Goku is he's scared of him now? I mean, as well as slicing Enrai up in front of him.
making for the dimension gate that leads to the lower world
Ohh, I did wonder how it worked, getting to and from heaven.
Also, hedgehogs??
no subject
Harinezumi, needle rat. 'Body resembles a rat but the back is covered with needle-like quills. Rolls itself into a ball when attacked. Found in various locations throughout Asia and Europe' says the J-J without commenting on any anthropomorphic associations it might have, the way badgers do. Sounds like a hedgehog to me, without the Mrs. Tiggy-winkle associations. (Googling to find out what that name was exactly reveals that most people associate hedgehogs with Sonic the. Sic transit.)
Maybe, rats with weapons = hedgehogs?
