New York, New Jersey, Maryland, DW peeps-- stay safe and dry. Though I see the Weather Network is forecasting 'rain, at times heavy' for Sunday in NYC. For this you close the subway?
Did weather network neglect to mention the category 1 hurricane (http://www.nytimes.com/projects/hurricanes/#!/2011/Irene?smid=tw-nytimes) arriving at a new moon high tide as source of said "rain, at times heavy" ?
Nary a peep about any hurricane. 'At times heavy' for them means '50+ mm' which is a scant two inches. And NYers can rejoice. Sunday evening will see only 'scattered showers.'
Storm surges and flooding is what I hear. Which I suppose is more down to wind than water. I just remember how on this day in 1993 the Yamanote went down when whatever typhoon it was hit Tokyo directly, and it wasn't the Sumida waters that did it.
ETA: TWN thinks winds will be 45/ 50 km/hr. That's 27 to 30 mph. I still wonder about TWN.
