Cataracts

Well, *that* was the essence of nothing at all. Supposed to take fifteen minutes; I'd be surprised if it was ten. Unlike my aged neighbour, I still think it's worse than the dentist, but then she was well-sedated and not there, and I... was not, and was. Interesting LSD colour effects and no pain, but the unavoidable thought of what was going on rendered the experience less than pleasurable.

(Am typing with one eye closed, because I'm supposed to stay off the net today so as not to upset the light sensitive operated eye. Not that hard, but am glad I'm still bi-ocular. Must also avoid lifting more than five pounds/ 2.5 kilos, meaning the bicycle is now getting soaked in the rain, being locked to the back stairs up which I may not lift it for ten days. Poor Bikos.)

I'm glad you made it through okay! Rest up!

Resting up is boooring. If it wasn't monsooning I'd go for a walk.

Very glad to hear it went smoothly, and I hope you don't get too bored while recovering.

I have a large-print Mary Russell to read while my eyes decide what strength of reading glasses they require. I am nothing if not prepared.

Extremely cunning. I salute you.

Wishing you a speedy and satisfactory recovery! The other two women in our tabletop RPG group have both had this surgery, successfully and I'll probably come to it in the not-to-distant future.

"Everyone has cataracts; they don't all need to be operated on," my (then) eye doctor said dismissively last year when I complained about my fuzzy vision. This may be true. But what amazes me is how *dark* the world now looks out of my other eye, the one with the tiny cataract, quote-unquote. No wonder I keep tripping over things and stubbing my toes: I literally don't see what's in front of me.

(To say nothing of the psychological effect of seeing the world through a yellow-grey film-- which I hadn't realized was happening either.)

Cheers! :)

Should open that bottle of bubbly in the fridge...

Thanks. And now everyone can say 'I told you it was nothing.'

[identity profile] mvrdrk.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah for you! I didn't realize it was today!

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't exactly send out engraved announcements...

Glad it's over and was not too traumatic.
Hope the recovery goes well.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. They say 'from 2-3 days to several weeks before the eye adjusts' so it's a bit premature to be griping about 'the computer screen's all fuzzy!' But gripe I do.

*HUG* - wishing you a speedy recovery dear. *more hugs*

Could you not ask next door to help you at least put a tarp over Bikos.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I seem to be coming along nicely.

First one must have a tarp., of course. When it stops raining I shall purchase a cheap shower liner from the dollar store, which will then not be needed.

Cool, now that it's out, all that's left to do is rest up and then you can party! :)

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Resting up is boring, she moans. Can't we cut straight to the party! part?

Oh, I'm glad it was so simple. Sorry that procrastination meant I didn't wish you luck beforehand.

I'm told I have pre-cataract crystals, but I have no idea how pre they are. Since I entrust my eyes to the local university, being told about the slightest change or deviation from the text book is an expected hazzard.

Poor bike:( So you must be excused lifting children too.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yay for closely-monitored eye care.

And yes, no playing with the tinies for a week. This makes me sad.

They do one at a time, but often a few months or even weeks apart. I'm going to wait to see just how bad the non-reading part is. The new lens gives me distance, which myopic me never had, but wipes out the presbyopic gain of being able to read with my naked eyes. At the moment the computer is nearly impossible. I get tested for prescription reading glasses three weeks post-surgery, but I understand getting something that works both for computers and books can be a pain.

[identity profile] feliciter.livejournal.com 2011-06-26 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear your surgery went well!

Hope you're using those eye drops and the shield.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-26 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Am religious about eye drops and about the shield in bed, though I carelessly went into the bath without it yesterday. I do not splash in the bath, so all is well. Shall certainly use it in the shower tonight, with pad and my back to the nozzle as per instructions.

Well, I'm a bit late, but hope you're recovered now.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2011-06-28 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Getting there.
