I had to vote strategically for the Grits in order to fend off a Hasidic Conservative candidate who played the Israel card, argh argh argh - and this in Trudeau's old riding. Everyone else here voted to send their local engineer, social worker, or 2nd year poli sci student to Ottawa rather than suffer one more second of either the Bloc or the Liberals.
Time was, the Bloc ensured minority governments. Before that, Quebec (usually) ensured Liberal governments. Now it's a crapshoot. But my heart sinks because I remember vividly what happens when people who aren't used to being in office- ie good-hearted always also-ran NDPers- get into office. Incompetence, conflicts of interest, and sheer n00b fuck-ups. Rae was not stupid but oh his party members were. Give Jack Layton a hundred days and people will be fed up with the NDP too.
