World Book Day meme

The book I am reading:
In Japanese: Hitsuji wo Meguru Bouken (ue) (or is it kami?) (part 1, in any case.) Which is 268 pages long. I broke down and bought it in translation yesterday. A Wild Sheep Chase, complete, is 350 pages. There's something distinctly odd when the English translation is shorter than the Japanese original.

In English: Thich Nhat Hanh, The Miracle of Mindfulness. This because [livejournal.com profile] paleaswater's husband went to an exhibit at the science museum which involved someone strapping electrodes to a Tibetan monk and discovering that the portion of the brain that records electrical impulese at happy times was always lit up with them. He decided to try this mindfulness meditation to see if it made him more happy, and reported that it worked. Since S is almost as Eeyore-ish as I am, I figured I'd give it a go myself.

The book I'm writing:
      I'm not.

The book I love most:
I don't think there is one. The book I'd take to a desert island with me for company and consolation? Might it be Robinson's Wang Wei, still, even now?

The last book I received as a gift:
As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia child and Avis Devoto. From my brother, for Christmas. My brother mostly gives me books for Christmas. Sometimes he asks what I'd like; often enough he just picks something. I think the recs must come from my S-i-L, because he was never an avid reader of anything but technical magazines himself.

The last book I gave as a gift:
Far far back in the mists of time. If amazon gift certificates don't count, it was probably Leguin's translation of the Tao Te Ching that I gave to [livejournal.com profile] incandescens for Christmas '09. Alas that I cannot find her Christmas book for 2010, though I know what it is.

The nearest book on my desk
      Hitsuji wo meguru bouken.

Oh, he's much more Eeyore-ish than you are, unless you're completely different when I don't see you. :P

I'm way more Eeyore alone than in company. S and I could probably Glum a fog into existence if we could get our inner Eeyores in sync.
