Getting rid of the fail and twit logos

Supposedly you can add customized css to your lj so you no longer see the boxes under the comment box.

This post gives the css to do it. Note that it doesn't work for me. Its coding is .b-repost-item, #repost_twitter, #repost_facebook{display:none;}

This post gives a slightly different css to do it. Note that it doesn't work for me. Its coding is .b-repost-item {display:none}. Does the extra semicolon in the first css make any difference to anyone else?

Oh, neat! Thanks for the link!

I hope it works better for you than it did for me.

The semi-colon isn't really necessary, it's just a separator in case you have other declarations that you want to apply in the rule. The last one (and in my example there's only one) does not require a semi-colon, but most CSS has one just to be consistent.

Argh yes sorry; colons are not semicolons, which I know when my eyes are not suffering allergy gunk in them.

But the coding still doesn't remove the repost boxes and I can't figure out why.

Try viewing source on the page, and find the code for the boxes. Look for a class="something" or id="Something" attribute. If they're not the b-repost-item or whatever, find out what they are, and then add a custom CSS rule for that class, using the display:none declaration. That should do it.

Someone else was saying that the CSS hack I came up with only works with S2 themes, but I don't know enough about it to say whether that has anything to do with your problem.

If you figure anything out, be sure to post your findings so that others can benefit.

Cheers!

[livejournal.com profile] fuzzy_carpet says in a comment below:
Using the code... will disable the ticky boxes, but not if you use the LJ default style for your comment pages -- that is, the plain blue-and-white page that we see now.

Maybe the default style is a holdover from Style 1 or whatever?

It works for me to remove the ticky boxes for the two options. However, the text that says "Repost to Settings" with settings as a link, remains.

Err-- you mean the coding removes the ticky boxes for you, yes? My grasp of language seems to have suffered today. I'll live with seeing the Repost to Settings tag, but for no good reason the ticky boxes, even blanked out and unusable, are getting on my nerves.

Then again, once the weekend brings in its 'high 18', I expect *nothing* to bother me anymore.

Yes, that's what I meant. I apologize for awkward sentence construction: due to one thing and another at work today, I was writing like a Russian software developer earlier. >.<

I can't think of a reason why it's not working for you.

one thing and another at work today

How nice that work has only one more day to go? And the reason is in the next comment down.

The "Repost to" element is identified as ##STRONG

If you hide it, you hide the journal names on your friends list too. I'm not sure which way to jump; the surplus text is annoying, and I can recognise most journals by their icons, which is why it took a while to work out what was wrong; but upset people use different icons to post.

I don't think I can manage without journal names. But what an odd glitch.

Using the code:

.b-repost-item {display:none}

will disable the ticky boxes, but not if you use the LJ default style for your comment pages -- that is, the plain blue-and-white page that we see now. Don't understand why it should matter, but it does. *shrugs* Hopefully someone else will find a workaround until we get a damn OPT-OUT button.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, there we are. Thank you. Scratch that itch.

Lj never gives us OPT-OUT buttons. But I dislike DW's layouts even more than lj's, so here I stay.
