Pulling rank

Ah. Evil Crochet. Yes indeed. Non-craftsy me only just managed to crochet a remarkably unfunctional afghan (= does not keep me warm in winter on the living room sofa, but then nothing does except hanten.) But I've always known that serious craftspeople knit things, following those cuneiform knitting instructions as they do it; just as serious East Asian aficionados read Chinese and not that '2000 characters and two phonic-syllabery crutches' Japanese. I so fail at life.

Aspirin and codeine, we were so tight for so long. Ever since high school, and you know how long ago that was. I lose a gall bladder and suddenly you hate me. Why, baby, why? You're the best, the absolute best, and now you kick me in the gut and tell me to go out with Celebrex or Naproxen instead. But those uptown dames can't hold a candle to you. Can't we make it up, honey? I miss you so bad.

I so fail at life. - I think I'm failing quite spectacularly in my own way here ...heh! I ... I want to help the children more with their Mandarin - even with the tuition on top of regular school - I don't think it is enough, so I got flash cards to help all of us! Hah! Much hilarity at my expense to the delight of the children. BUT the upside is at least they are enjoying it and so far thankfully upstaging me. As it should be!

I'm on the lookout for more advanced flashcards ... because they *KNOW* the easy ones ... but *sigh* have not been able to find any!

*hugs* - hope you're feeling better.

Surely advanced exists, though that may depend on your definition of same. First 100 hanzi or first 500, or is it in the thousands?

Just spent the interval of a violent thunderstorm studying Chinese modal verbs. (That's 会, 能, and 可以 for the layman.) Grammar /does/ settle the stomach.

I have a set of three hundred, to bring it up to 500 would be good! I'll just have to look for them I guess! Also I am sure someone I know will be able to tell me!

Oooh I wish it would thunderstorm here! If nothing else it would get rid of (even if it is only temporarily) the humidity that feels like it *IS* building up to a thunderstorm.

Sad thing is it will probably rain and flood somewhere that doesn't need rain and flooding!

Good to know that grammar does what codeine and aspirin substitutes cannot! Yaay for non-chemical remedies! I'm all for it.

For what it's worth, I am not remotely a serious craftsperson. :)

(Though I would be curious to see a photo of the afghan.)

But I take your point regarding all the best schisms and accusations of heresy. Nobody outside the circle of true believers ever understands properly.

The afghan is in fact about 25 years old, a product of my enthusiastic 30s, consists of bands of bright 'barbarian' colours in deplorable acrylic wool, and was unearthed from the linen closet last winter while I wondered if I should throw it away. Nostalgia won. Alas, I am eccentric in my non-possession of a digital camera and so taking pictures isn't an option.

But if there were no Us and Them what would we do for drama and group spirit? 'Those people were a kind of necessity.'

At least yarn has advanced a bit. I would not be enjoying knitting so much if I were using the acrylics of 25 years ago.
