The great purple Cow Pee strikes again

Read the quote of the week up there at the top and weep. Weep great salt tears at what an enterprising Australian and his pinyin illiterate friends in China have wrought.

Thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] daegaer.

@_@ .. errmmm initial reaction is WTH!!?? *Dies from incredulity - or shock*

It's like endearingly bad fanfic! Except that copyright expired centuries ago (if it ever existed).

"incorporation of other genres"

Like space opera? Or zombie romantic comedy! (mm, brains)

Actually most of the pinyin appear to be correct, except for the unfortunate Cow Kao Cao family. What is hilarious is the link to Wiki with the *right* pinyin and corresponding hanzi.

It could be worse! . . . I'm not sure how, but I'm sure it could be.

/sigh/ it sorta ruins an otherwise (as poster above pointed) respectable 3k fanfic.

Except that I can barely keep the main canon events and characters straight, much less fanboi plot interpolations and second string generals.

But all the more squeee for 3k! (I know, I'm in one of those cheery sociable moods :P)

Except that I can barely keep the main canon events and characters straight,

Whoever manages to? I'm now reading the thing third time (in anglais, of course), and I still don't. (But then im only here for the slashy and/or the gossipy bits.)

Whoever manages to?

You dishearten me dreadfully.

(But then im only here for the slashy and/or the gossipy bits.)

Luckily there're so many of those. You still have to remember which second string general it is that Cao Cao or Liu Bei has a pash for.

[identity profile] mauvecloud.livejournal.com 2009-05-15 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. What of first-, second-string strategists? (Cao Cao's lamentation "Ah, if only Guo Jia were still alive!" brings fangirl squee to one's eyes.)

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2009-05-16 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
All those guys run together in my mind. Guo Jia? Do I know Guo Jia? Yes, Wikipedia informs me that I have met Guo Jia often but the name rings no bells. Nor the other guy that Cao Cao had executed and wept bittelry for. As with Lor dof the Rings, I suppose all this will get clearer on the second read, if and when.

Or Ravages of Time, maybe, that adds a face and kanji to the names. But the translated to Japanese part is all stuff before the story gets interesting and is a hideous price once the exchange rate gets factored in.

Eh, why japanese? You should be able to handle the original (HK chinese, traditional hanzi).

Yours truly, on the other hand, stops at Doraemon when it comes to reading chineses.

And here be pretty!Guo Jia in Ravages of Time, english scans:

You're mad. I stop at 趴趴熊蹺 (translated from the Japanese) when it comes to reading Chinese. There's this little thing called grammar, to say nothing of variant meanings between the kanji and hanzi, to say nothing of 了 moan tremble tremble.

Mhhh- scanlations. Maybe will look at. Thanks.
