Woxin question

A couple of times in the course of the series people mention the names of several empire-destroying (or at least, king-distracting) beauties of old. This has to be in the first fifteen eps because I remember them from my rewatch, but nothing else about who or when (though I think once was Ya Yu talking about someone?) Does anyone remember who these beautiful women were or know anything about them? Google of course only knows the later Four Famous.

Hmm, I don't remember who she specifically mentioned, but there's 褒姒, favorite of Zhou emperor. She never smiled. So to amuse her the emperor of Zhou ordered the smoke signals lighted along all the watchtowers to summon his vassals. Naturally they did not find it so amusing, and did not come again the next time when the tartans invaded and the emperor lighted the signals to summon help.

Earlier yet in Shang dynasty there's Danyi, who was known for her cruelty and delight various forms of torture. This is from Houshin Engi, so you can probably find more info on it on the net..

That's the two I remember off the top of my head that are earlier than Yue. There are a few more but I'm fuzzy on the details right now.

褒姒

Thanks. Bao Si has a couple of entries but Danyi has none that I can find. I thought whoever it was had Di in her name, if that's possible.

did not come again the next time when the tartans invaded

I don't know much cultural stuff, but Danyi (? never heard this name actually) is commonly known as Daji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daji).

The tartars wore tartans, didn't you know? :P There's archaeological evidence for it.
