Am currently having pre-trip pre-flying jitters in the form of three year old tantrumming about having to Dress Like A Gurrl.

I don't like dressing markedly!female because it's completely unnatural for me. Not that I wander about in jeans and wife-beaters and tattoos ordinarily, or ever, but I don't dress up. I hate dressing up. I hate it mostly because good clothes for women can only be used on good occasions which in my case I have not got, and why am I buying all this useless drycleanable stuff that I'll never wear again when if I was a guy I could wear a good suit that would come in handy for dinners out and opera and funerals and stuff like that. The conspicuous consumption aspect of the whole thing pisses me royally. There needs to be some recognizable form of Dyke-wear for formal occasions. 'Will Moddom be dressing straight or gay? Gay? Then may I suggest the morning coat ensemble with silver lamé combat boots?'

Of course the worst of good clothes is good shoes. I can't wear good shoes. My feet are swollen and deformed with toes that point where they shouldn't. High heels, sandals, pretty little footwear: I can't do that any more. Man am I tempted to wear my sleeveless black dress and my faux-silk white overtop and my BIG CLUMPING ORTHOPEDIC BLACK LACEUP SHOES. That'd show them. (In the event I shall be wearing Tender Tootsie slippers- if my feet don't swell even more- and taking cabs.)

(I should have kept my grandmother's dresses and not let my younger brother walk off with them. They were large, flowing, comfortable, made in France of hand-made lace, and no one could even guess what shoes you had on underneath the skirt because it was so long. She was 2" taller than me in her heels. So nah.)

Grah. More gin. And more Cent Demons, because it's only $13 more to order two volumes from France than to order one volume from Montreal. $27 for a single volume once shipping's factored in? That's more than Kikiwai charges for Japanese manga. Heee doi.

Hey! Don't sweat it! I wear my black ankle high Doc Marten's everywhere. Weddings, funerals, dinner and dances. I almost wore them on my wedding day too...but I found a nice pair of silver Kickers lace ups for that! I'm into my fourth incarnation of my tried and trusted DM's since I started wearing them.

I must admit... a pain to take off when you have been 'randomly' chosen by security to be checked thoroughly! before getting on a plane. (by virtue of name I felt) but I wasn't bothered. They had to handle my socks! ^__^.

Ooh! and black sleeveless..works everytime! I have umm black sleeveless in various lengths. ^__^

Whatever you choose in the end...

Have fun wherever you're going! *Waves*

Wait. It's not okay to just do Ye Basic Black Dress for All Occasions? And you don't even have the eternal cat hair problem. /fashion-sense-free

I laughed my ass off at this one, because that's exactly how I dress, normally.

LOL! The new basic black dress will be useful for something. Just wait and see. I'm trying to imagine your younger brother and your grandmothers dresses and failing.

The store ladies and my co-workers all told me that the little black dress is the thing for evening weddings and not floor length at my age. I don't wear little black dresses. I certainly don't want to pay for little black dresses. So I gave up and am going in a basic black top and pants with an over top thing for some color and to hide the flabby arms. Reasonably festive, I believe. (Lime green and buff yellow. I wanted the red and gold one or the teal and turquoise one but they didn't have the right sizes.)

You should bring your black orthopedics. I went and looked at dress shoes and then negotiated with the sales person that pants cover a multitude of sins and could I please have the walking boots? I am warned not to wear the low boots with skirts, as it's a fashion faux pas. I intend to wear the low boots with white athletic socks and a skirt anyway. You can tell me whether it's acceptable when you see it. I have a friend with black sneakers and she wears them everywhere. Even funerals. With dress pants they are nearly invisible.

The one thing I did discover today was thigh high panty hose. I had become resigned to digging out my mother's old garters and getting stockings, but these may be better.

Should I bring any books? Cent Demons?

I should be able to arrange for rides back for you guys in the evenings. (Sorry I've been quiet. Just kind of buried right now). We can talk about it at dinner on Friday. There's nothing planned afterwards, so if you guys are not too tired we can hang out in your room a little afterwards. Let me know if you want me to bring any books.
