Brief woe

Snow begins next week. Hope my new staff arrives before then. Hope it works and doesn't inflame my tendinitised elbows.

S-i-l says the ROM's Viking show is not worth seeing. Maybe I'll try to get to the Dior exhibition instead. This 'never sure whether I can walk or not' thing is, quite literally, a pain.

Had flies again this weekend. Or fly. Always one wherever I went, that dive-bombed me and refused to sit for more than a second in any one place. It follows the light and I locked it in the study last night. I trust it perished, or at least went dormant when I turned the heat down.

Lots of sympathy.

Thank you.

My sympathies on he walking in snow!

Flies will get slow if they are cold. They are attracted to light so the easiest time to kill them is early morning against an east facing window. I normally go after them with the vacuum, it's got reach I don't have and getting near will suck them in even if my accuracy is less than ideal. Eventually whatever corpse they're hatching on will desiccate and they'll stop appearing.

My vacuum doesn't reach very far- it's an economy model- but they, or rather it, does bat against the study window in the morning and I let it out. The thing is they're at their genkiest in the evening, when the house is just warming up and I want peace.

Yep! I don't try to catch them in the evenings, I'm too slow and clumsy. I do however attract them to one room, they'll go towards the light and then close the door to keep them in there. If I'm really ambitious, I'll turn on an outdoor light and let them out the door, but that makes the house really cold. :)
