My sympathies on he walking in snow!

Flies will get slow if they are cold. They are attracted to light so the easiest time to kill them is early morning against an east facing window. I normally go after them with the vacuum, it's got reach I don't have and getting near will suck them in even if my accuracy is less than ideal. Eventually whatever corpse they're hatching on will desiccate and they'll stop appearing.
