Am being reminded why I liked doing full-time shifts, as I am this week hisashiburi ni. Lack of sleep + busy all day = the stunned contentment of the very drugged. Am being reminded why people's idiocies didn't grate so much five years ago and more when I was doing full-time shifts. I was too drugged to care. (*Ten* years ago I could work up a good fannish froth, mind, but that was fandom, not 'that guy out the back with the open windows and the amplifiers.')

Mh yes. 'If solitary, be not idle.' Indeed.

Today was M's last day before he goes off to grade 1 in the fall. A winter baby, he's been at daycare for six years: very much the oldest inhabitant, and the perfect gentleman with it. There was a cake and presents for him and his fellow graduates at snack today, and two of the five-year-olds burst into tears on realizing that he wouldn't be coming back tomorrow. Such an accolade is a first in my 30-plus years at this job.

hisashiburi ni, thank you for that, it's missing from the English language! I hope you get all the full-time shifts you desire.
Your graduating gentleman seems like a real charmer, perhaps the 5 year olds will see him in elementary school in a few years..

In English you can say 'for the first time in a long time', but hisashiburi ni is shorter.

I'm not likely to get more of the well-paying jobs, bar catastrophe-- there's half a dozen younger bodies panting for them and the staff take the 'oh but they need the money more' attitude. I just got these three because the woman who'd agreed to do them got a one-month stint with the school board. So I'm counting on an impoverished but leisurely summer.

They will indeed see him again a few years down the road, and being him he'll probably still be happy to talk to grade ones when he's a lordly grade three. A natural big brother, Chinese variety; and a pity he has no sibs to be a big brother to.
