I do not have a 'smells' tag

Ah hah. So the 'Aoyama' incense [livejournal.com profile] petronia bought for me at that upscale botique at the island airport is supposed to smell like old houses in Aoyama. Taishou Aoyama, then-- woodsmoke and sandalwood-- because Aoyama doesn't smell like that now. Equally, when burning the incense does smell like old temples; in its box it smells of someone else's notion of White Linen.

(BTW, you can say what you like, but Chanel no.5 doesn't smell the same now as it did in the 60s.)

Ohhhh my mother used to have White Linen.

A lot of the 'older' launched scents have been re-launched and have different ingredients now, either due to illegalities (like civet and deer musk) and availabilities (or rather lack thereof). I managed to find a bottle of Fidji that an aunt of mine had and scrimp on its use. I have managed to also keep it's original scent. However apparently the new Fidji is less than it's ancestor these days. So yes it is highly probable that Chanel No 5 is not what it once was.

Have a good Sunday dear, and have a good week. *hugs*

Urgh yes, when oakmoss went out they reformulated all the chypres essentially destroying the entire category. Now am stuck having to track down a bottle of Mitsouko from pre-2010.

I was amused because I didn't remember Aoyama smelling of anything at all when I was there, even the older wooden buildings. XD; On the other hand their Naples candle really does smell like the inside of an Italian bakery.

How did it go out? The webpages I've looked at seem to think it's very much still around.

Must check that store out some time, then.

Apparently Chanel no 5 was 'remastered' in 1986, not merely because of banned materials but to present a different image. Fine for the civet cats, I suppose, but it makes me a little sad.

IFRA regulatory requirement (maybe this is Europe only? but all the perfume houses are in Europe anyway) -- oakmoss levels got reduced to something like 0.1%. Mitsouko still smells the same up top and out of the bottle, but the drydown barely exists anymore in comparison.

The little airport shop doesn't have the candles IIRC though! They're sold somewhere else in TO (I went to the Montreal Want store, after).
