Have finished Tiassa. This is not, repeat not, the signal to read The Phoenix Guards, Five Hundred Years After, or The Viscount of Adrilankha. Well, maybe The Viscounta because I was punchdrunk when I read it last and remember nothing of what happened.

The neighbour two doors north of me called me over this morning as I was looking at the straggly newly-planted lavender on my front uhh what would be lawn if it had grass. Seems the neighbour two doors south of me had come by that morning, looked at the lavender, looked up the street to see if anyone was watching, looked down the street ditto, leaned over, reached out her hand, hesitated, flipped hand in 'not worth it' gesture, and walked away. North neighbour was in her front garden but is short, slender, dark-haired, and dark-skinned, and does indeed blend with the scenery, as I can attest from experience. North neighbour also has flourishing lavender plants that she's happy to give cuttings from to those that ask. Looks like I may be asking sooner than I thought.

Disgusting behaviour by neighbour two doors south. Well, more disgusting if she had gone through with it, but still shameful and fully indicative.

It seems such an unlikely thing for her to do. We have a friendly nodding broken-conversation relationship, and really, it's just not neighbourly. I might hope that north neighbour misread the whole thing.

Sometimes I touch branches of rosemary by the sidewalk, not to take any, but because it makes my hands fragrant. I wonder if lavender does the same. I'll have to try it on my own.

It does when it has flowers. Mine don't yet.

It would be nicer if it was just a misunderstanding, yes. She might just have been rubbing her fingers against the leaves to enjoy the smell. I've done that a few times.
