Semi-reprieve

Win98 works still, hurrah. Win98 uses IE6, which normally I have no problem with. But LJ does, OMG does it ever. Ticky boxes everywhere that no css scripts will disappear, and entries scroll up and over that heading I have up there. Firefox it is, at least for the time being.

Yes I know the universe is telling me I waste too much time reading LJ. Eventually I will listen.

You may already know this, but with firefox, under tools > options > contexts > font & colors > advanced, you can set a minimum font size. No page will ever display font smaller than the minimum. (I'm fond of large fonts too, because i sit far from the monitor. not as far as mikeneko, tho :D)

My problem with Firefox is that it displays, say, Arial 12 different in different places. On my FL it's a decent font. But click the lj-cut and view the whole entry, and suddenly it's a size smaller. Bump it up 10% and it looks like the previous page; but the previous page is now enormous. I think it's the fault of a low resolution (800x600 on this beast, but even 1024x768 had the same problem. At the minuscule resolution laptops and others seem to prefer, the difference is negligible.

And yes, I sit almost as far away as mike does-- nearly a meter from the screen for choice.

re font in my case too big is better than too small, but if they get really too big, ctrl and minus keys are handy with my wireless keyboard =P

i used to be a staunch IE user until IE7 came along... i heard it's not too bad with IE8, but 1. it still lags on my machine here (maybe i am not too careful about add-ins/plug-ins i allow to get installed on IE), and 2. i've been with ff for the last 6 years.

there was a page where you could download old versions of programs? I'll imagine firefox or opera might handle this better.
