Spend money like water

I go to my doctor's appointment and come back with a backpack full of books from the used bookstore up by her place.

'You could have gone out to dinner on that $22,' Superego says. 'Now you can stay in and eat mush.'

'I merely emulate Erasmus,' I reply. '"When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left, I buy food and clothes."'

'Yeah, but Erasmus read his books.'

Erm. This is true. Still, I might read these?

The Lies of Locke Lamora, a random Hornblower to see what he reads like, the first Jane Austen Detective, and a Canadian kid's book about a little girl who has a Chinese dragon hatch from a stone her father brought back from China. Started the last on the subway. Daddy brings back a stone. Maybe it's a dragon's egg, he says. Middle of the night it hatches. Oh yeah, it *was* a dragon's egg. Oh dear. Oh well. The illustrations are nice. (Did not get A Companion to Wolves in spite of inexplicable temptation. 'But you don't like the way either of them writes.' 'Oh. Right.')

[livejournal.com profile] daegaer sent me an lj snowflake, which cheered me in my (viral and untreatable) sinus infection misery. However. She added a Japanese message that now there's snow. Fifteen minutes later, what do you think started falling from the sky? (looks dubiously across the Atlantic.) Maybe everything [livejournal.com profile] daegaer says comes true if it's in Japanese. Like the fact that Mt Fuji *is* now entirely enveloped in rubbish. Use your powers for good, [livejournal.com profile] daegaer! Say 'flemmings-san wa takarakuji ga atarimasu.' Or-- maybe wait till I actually *buy* some lottery tickets to ataru with.

Quick! Buy those lottery tickets sharpish, before my powers wear off!

I found The Lies of Locke Lamora to be entertaining.
