The dizzy autumn festival round

Hari Raya is already over in S'pore, but Happy Eid to [livejournal.com profile] i_am_zan and anyone else who celebrates. Next up-- mid-autumn festival. I told me I couldn't have mooncakes unless I broke the weeping-point 200 lb mark. I have done that, quite unwittingly. Thus-- mooncake. Singular. When I'm quite sure lotus paste won't upset my fragile innards again.

Otherwise have succumbed and am reading my first Amelia Peabody. Also Komahoshi, which at the end of vol 10 suddenly reverted to the desperate edgy happenings of the first volumes after about five tanks of Happy Skool Daze rabu-rabu.

The deal with the Kashiwagis and the Hosakas is this.

The oldest daughter of the Kashiwagi family and her husband, evidently an adopted son-in-law, had two children, a boy Masaya-I-*think*, and a girl Ayako. Mr Kashiwagi died. Mrs Kashiwagi remarried, to the second son of the wealthy business Hosaka family. The elder Mr Hosaka disowned his son, for whatever reason-- thwarting his wishes, I assume. The couple had a son, our problem child Kiyomine. So Ayako is a half-sister, not a step; but I still don't get why she seems to appear first of all when Kiyomine is a kid, nor why he calls her by name; and the fact that she's a half-sister makes his akogare just a little yuck to my tastes. Unless of course I'm misreading that bit as well.

Of course, *staying* on the shy side of 200 is another question. Two days without diuretics and up we inch centimetre, in spite of half the normal calories. Ahh metabolism. You suck.

As Ramadhan is a month, so Syawal is too! ^_^ (therefore Hari Raya is not technically over yet. Although we only have one public holiday day.) Your good wishes are timely. And now... yaaay! MOONCAKES! You know if I could send you some I would but the postage time scares me! A postcard - from Wasaga Beach - took THREE WEEKS!!!! And she put enough stamps on it.

It would be an unnatural green and ready to walk itself off to somewhere by then. Eep! And lotus paste makes you go all wobbly inside? Oh dear *pets* hmm is it the lotus bit or the paste-y bit? Sometimes it is the texture that gets to people a little.

I went to a nearby mall for a little tasting and not much luck there yet. I may have to *gasp* venture into town for the more delectable and inventive flavours.

Thank you for the wishes. I'm late to the f-list because it's been a hectic weekend. Lots of visiting for us ... although a huge part of that is that so no one can come visit my messy house. Low enough to be on the heirarchy to avoid them for another year.

Hope your evening is a lovely one. *hug*

Oh, wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hari_Raya_Aidilfitri) must have it wrong then. Hari Raya isn't Aidilfitri the day itself but the whole month of which Aidilfitri is the first day?

Thank you for the virtual mooncake thoughts. Right now everything makes me go wobbly inside. Ordinarily, no, alas, I have no trouble with it at all.

Wiki is right but doesn't explain it clearly enough I guess. In the side bar box it Eid is given the date 1 Syawal. So the actual Holy Day is the first day. The feasting day after the fast. A lot of folks chose to fast an extra 6 or 7 daysdon't quote me ... for plus points. We call Puasa Enam/Puasa Tujuh (enam=6; tujuh=7) but are forbidden to fast on the 1 Syawal. The celebrations do last a month, is more traditional than religious.

My guess is in days of yore, to visit elderly relatives took a while maybe so we use that month still to visit relatives. Even now sometimes it takes a month to gather enough 'ouf I cannot put it off any longer I better go and visit Aunty X and Uncle Y is I must. *sigh*' - kind of thing. So things haven't changed much really. ^_~

And feel better soon ok.
