SAD

I has it. It starts with the first warm muggy stinky day in spring and doesn't go away till Thanksgiving (ours, not theirs.) It has started today. It'll be cooler on the weekend, but that's only a brief respite. June is coming, to be followed by July: hot muggy days in insufficient air conditioning, hot muggy nights that are both too warm and too clammy for sleep. And I grow old and stiff and nothing is as good as it was before, not that it was ever very good to start with, and nothing is ever going to be the way it could have been, and Zhuge Liang is not either a brilliant tactician, he's a hedge wizard who uses magic to make the wind to burn the ships that carried the men who marched in the army that Cao Cao led. Bah.

*sigh* I totally know the feeling ... add a couple of degrees on it and up humidity y 10% - I can sympathise wholly with you on this!

Past two nights I've swished myself nights under tap water which isn't even running cold anymore and not bothered to wipe myself down because air least it air dries cool! Frizzy hair like mine (which is lovely and curly in temperate climes) is threatening to spontaneously combust. At least it feels like it!

Try to somehow stay cool!

Damp some clean face/hand towels ziplock them and chill them in the fridge. Take them out as and when you might need an instant refresher for the face or the neck. It *IS* only temporary but still at nights it might help a little. It worked for restless babies at their most fussy during hot muggy nights. ^__^ Also whilst sticky and a tad messy, AND I don't know if you'd be able to find it local to you but menthylated calamine! I love the stuff! (I get really bad bites and itches during these months).

Take care ok!

I'm ashamed to complain of Toronto's muggy heat in front of Singaporeans.

Hush! Don't be. Muggy and hot, is muggy and hot. Doesn't matter where you are!

Lol most of the reputations of 3k people are just that — reputation. Augmented by thousands of years of telling/retelling/referencing and people not bothering to wade through the entire bloody canon.

By bloody canon I assume we mean the actual history and not the Romance? Because the Romance is as specious a piece of special pleading as I have seen in many a long day, and I can only be grateful for Robert's citing of alternative versions in his notes.

Yeah, the actual history, 三國志 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Records_of_Three_Kingdoms) and stuff. Pop culture runs more to Luo's characterisations, for whatever reasons.
