A joy as always. :)

Ah, very nicely played. I like Ya Yu's role in this AU.

'The strong player plays straight, the weak diagonally.'

And the cross-cultural pun translates excellently.

*enjoys imagining the look on Uncle Ming's face in response to the truth he can't handle (yet)*

I'm glad there was a cross-cultural pun there, she says not gladly at all, because I don't know what it is. ^^;

Ohh, you mean as in 'sexual orientation'...? But that means they're both weak!

Interior monologue grows old quickly. In Wu at least, or in my Wu at least, when Gou Jian talks to himself, he talks to Ya Yu. Since he doesn't have a half-dozen counsellors standing there voicing the pros and cons of various positions for him, as he does in Yue.

I was reading over back entries and [livejournal.com profile] paleaswater's insistence that Gou Jian is uke. Well, is yin, whatever. I see what she means, but it's going to create difficulties, because I'm still not sure who did what when he was with Fan Li. Who really is, in this AU, a favourite with benefits.

(Oops there wasn't? Mea culpa. It's 1 am here.)

Sexual orientation sprang to mind first, but I was then thinking of the words 斜 (slanted/diagonal) and 邪 (unorthodox, i.e. not straight and narrow, also with a connotation of evil or effeminate practices - case in point, Dongfang Bubai from the Swordsman book/films who castrated himself in order to master a forbidden martial art), both pronounced xie with a rising (2nd) tone.

Fan Li. Who really is, in this AU, a favourite with benefits

Ah, then there is a pun. I just don't know enough Chinese to make it. But I like it now I've had it drawn to my attention.

邪 (unorthodox, i.e. not straight and narrow, also with a connotation of evil or effeminate practices

That's our Gou Jian, at least to Fu Chai's mind. Which makes it all the more galling for Gou Jian to imply that he's the one taking the direct route and Fu Chai's who's being roundabout.

Oh now. He might after all be what equates to seme in their encounters.
