Any Go enthusiasts here?

Way back when, sometime in 2004, [livejournal.com profile] paleaswater was discussing Okano Reiko's head-hurty Youmi Henjou Yawa, and said
As for the Go metaphor, I was referring to when the Dragon jade in the river flew up and woke up, and then entered a room. The title of the chapter is a Go formation -- Locking the box with a golden lock. And before that was a scene that showed the other Dragon Jade with the painting immortal and a go board showing the formation -- a square of black made against a corner, and the opponent's white piece caught in it.
English Googling tells me nothing about Go formations and their names, and I don't know what 'formation' would be in Japanese. Does anyone here have more information about formation names?

"There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page."

What shows in your browser?

funny it did that to me too but when I did the search ... *sigh* anyways in an attempt to fix whatever problem the site or technophobe me has I sent a couple of emails

one is a direct cut and paste *looks around shiftily* - is that legal?

the other is a cut and pasted saved word doc.

I hope at least one of them works!
try this (http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Go_(board_game))

ahhh the link up there doesn't register the close bracket as part of it for some reason ormaybe it's time to go to bed for me or something, putting it in a link seems to keep it altogether ...should work now "DUH!" *headdesk*

Egads! Is it really 3:20 am

uhm yeah good night dear. Sorry I was not a help at all. :/

sleep might be a good thing after all! *double sigh*

Oh yes. And there it is. Not configurations but at least some concepts to be going on with. Thanks.

In Chinese it's usually called 阵 or 局。 Not sure about Japanese.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you remember where you read about the various formations? Or was it just this one?

[identity profile] paleaswater.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean in the manga or on the web? On the web try the Chinese wiki.

http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9B%B4%E6%A3%8B

Toward the bottom there's a huge list. But no explanations, unfortunately.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Not seeing this list of 阵. What's the hanzi for the section it's in?

[identity profile] paleaswater.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh duh it wasn't wiki, it was baidu

http://baike.baidu.com/view/1534.htm

search for 着法名称

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
OK. But I'm still confused. There's no explanation in baidu of what these formations are. So how did you know that the pattern on the go board Dragon Gem is playing with the Immortal was the one contained the chapter's title?

[identity profile] paleaswater.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I just looked at the picture she had of the go board, with the pieces forming a square and open on one side, and it was quite obvious that's what she was referring to. Most of these go formations are quite visual.

If you say so. I look at something like 十王走马势 or 昭和一三五布局 and wonder what on earth...?
