But in the importance and noise of tomorrow
...A few thousand will think of this day/
As one thinks of a day when everyone was united in uncommon good cheer. As evidenced by the
metaquotes entry about Aretha Franklin's Hat:
this hat has its own zipcode.
this hat registered to vote in its own precinct.
this hat actually sang; Aretha held the microphone and lip-synced.
And my favourite of that thread:
Rahm Emmanuel is the Chief of Staff only because that hat turned the job down first.
(Wishes she was woman enough to wear Aretha Franklin's hat.)

I think yes only Aretha can carry it off. I cannot seem to visualise it on any other personality.
^__^ the hat made me smile and appreciate Aretha anew.

(using her other Hat icon)
That's the thing. Any other day, any other occasion, someone would have had something bitchy to say about the hat. Yesterday its unsinkable extravagence felt spot on, and everyone just smiled in happy wonder at it because, MAN, it's Obama's inauguration and when have we ever been this happy in living memory? Not relieved, not resigned, not determined, but simply *happy*? Twenty years ago, was it, in Europe?

Definitely meme-inspiring.

I want a couple of hours to myself this weekend so I can sit down with the computer and watch the inauguration. Failing that, I want to at least find a copy of Obama's speech so I can read it.
