My s-i-l gave me her old outdated deactivated blackberry, the one whose keypad has two letters per key, yes? With practice I may be able to use it as a pocket memorandum and address book, since I keep losing the slips of paper on which I write things. Right now I'm still trying to enter 'shopping list.' Have managed to enter 'sohp', which I suppose is progress.

LOL!
My cousin likes to text me and I take half an hour to respond with a simple reply because the typing is such a challenge on my cell.

I got a keitai a couple of weeks ago, and it's still a bit of alien technology that I carry around with me everywhere I go. Downloading the instruction manual in English helped a lot--at least now I know how to e-mail with it, although yeah, it takes me a painfully long time to do.

Ho ho ho. I stepped off the plane there and was handed one with zero instruction! What brand is yours? I always used DoCoMo 'cos they usually have models with English-language options built right in... Good luck. And if you email a lot, ten-key typing becomes second nature :)

How old is this thing? Do you know what model it is? Is it genuinely outdated? I'm curious, 'cos very few BBs these days don't have QWERTY keyboards (iCharm was the last 'cell phone' that they made, and Pearl is actually fairly new).

Coupla years-- two, three. I mean it's qwerty but two letters to a key, press, pick one, don't press too much or it'll give you another random letter, blah blah blah.

Not going to use it as a phone cause it's Rogers the Hell Corporation, and there's a long back story of it didn't work and s-i-l called and complained and they sent her a cheque for $500 which she managed to lose (a career where one can shrug off $500 would be enviable if I didn't know exactly what she does) and they then deactivated the thing and probably won't reactivate it and anyway it didn't work properly in the first place.

^_^ it has drasticly cleaned my cousin's texting vocab. Though he does say "ducking" quite a lot.

I now understand why text speak is text speak.
