Technology hates me

Whatever the Toronto Star is doing to celebrate today's election, it's managing to crash both IE and Foxfire, which is kind of a feat. Mind you, IE wants to crash over something at the Weather Network as well. Possibly the new layout.

Equally, those DVDs I bought on Dundas? Two out of five play on my machine. One of them is Throne of Blood, whose English subtitles gives everybody Chinese surnames. Kim and Chan and all, from 'Washizu' and 'Miki'. You get what you pay for.

Not that it's any excuse for The Star, but the sheer volume of people on the 'net tonight is causing a lot of things to load slowly/crash/appear broken.

Actually it's a flashplayer glitch. (At least I hope it's a glitch and not a recurring problem.) If I stop the page before the ads start I'm OK.

There's still the Globe, whose layout I detest, but which doesn't feature its idiot readers prominently on the first page.

Ah, Flash, yes. I have a NoScript add-on for Firefox that blocks Flash across the board unless I allow it, so I'd forgotten how flaky it can be is.

If only fonts didn't look so terrible in Firefox (at my resolution- they're fine once you get into four digits) I'd use it for everything. As it is I have to use it for any lj entry with more than 30 replies.

(The Star has gone from 'encountered a problem' to 'performed an illegal action.' Heigh-ho.)
