Ficcing

My what a lovely day. Didn't rain once. Wasn't even supposed to rain. Mind you, neither was yesterday evening, which produced torrential downpours and violent thunder and a couple of funnel clouds; and of course the same is forecast for tomorrow.

But for today, the sun shines, the cicadas sing, and I am inspired to fic. To ficlet. Discworld crossover with something very unlikely indeed. Blame qwerty. It was her idea.

Now, see, I can clearly recall a weekend, the long weekend only a fortnight back, when it didn't rain at all, not a drop; didn't even *look* like rain, and-- oh. No. I tell a lie. Saturday afternoon there were some thunderheads and a few rumblings downtown, meaning someone else was getting flooded. My bad.

I sniggered like a drain when the thrust of the story became clear. And I think you definitely caught the Pratchettian tone. Much admired!

Thank you!

Oh, very nice!

(Pyramid scheme. Indeed.)

I'm sure that isn't mine, but I can't trace it to any source.

Wahahaha! Very nicely done!

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

(Ahh, smiling Wen Zhong. I'm getting very nostalgic for those Woxin days of, yes, 半年前.)

because W was twice the country U was

That's a good one!

(modestly) Thank you. I'm fond of it myself, but expect it to go right past those inexplicable folk who don't subvocalize.

[identity profile] mauvecloud.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
If one vocalizes U the way the Japanese does it, then one gets a good approximation of the way Mandarin speakers pronounce Wu. (That does not work for Cantonese, for it might be Mo or Ng, depending on kanji. Some dialects [Mandarin is a dialect] are just lacking in variation. lol /troll)

Is *that* what it is? Thanks, that makes sense. My purdeaf ears have never been able to pick up what sound it is because it always gets swallowed by the 国 coming after.

[identity profile] xsmoonshine.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee. I have no impression whatsoever of what idea it was, but whee. /still reading fic and posts, not in possession of sufficient brain to respond sensibly.

You told me to dream of Discworld/ Woxin crossovers, so I did.

[identity profile] feliciter.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
I have no words to express how much love this engenders despite very little knowledge of Discworld. Thank you for the crossover perfectly a la Pterry!

Travels of Markpole.

*snerk* Out of curiosity, are there actually Ankh-Sextian chronicles?

W was twice the country U was

eheh. And following it through with WU!

I'd use the Fan Li (pensive) icon for theme, but this really needs the unabashed fangirling one :D

My blushes, my blushes!

are there actually Ankh-Sextian chronicles?

Not as far as I can google. The parallel to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle may have occurred to Pterry as well, but if so he's called it something else.
