Vendetta ti chiedo---

Vendetta for what is my own secret. Something I found in Shinjuku Station's side alleys:

Cake wrecks.

My favourite is probably the puffer fish. Deeeliiiicious fugu.

I think I like the Bond movie one best. :)

The Catbox one made me ><

Oh, they have Push, Olivia, push! as well!

The censored one had me WTH? for awhile.

But still, the only cake I wouldn't eat out of those would be the litter box one.

Heh. I discovered that site this week at work and had everyone cackling. The egotistical bridal cake and the reallly creepy baby cakes did me in.

[identity profile] avalonjones.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ah ha ha! I just found this site last night, and was gonna talk about it on my LJ, but you beat me to it! They all make me howl, but the best ones are the misspelled ones. "Congratulation, it a gril!"

[identity profile] i-am-zan.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
The puffer fish ones look like durians. To one not used to them probably just as deadly hee!

(and is it just me that I am not getting my lj notices at all!)Not pm-ses or even replies to comments! >.

Comments coming through OK for me, in spite of other lj screwups.

I saw the puffer fish cakes on tastespotting.com and immediately I wondered if the spikes were meringue. (I don't like meringue.)

XD

[identity profile] shiny-monkey.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
The spikes might actually be fondant, which can actually take on and hold some pretty well-defined shapes.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
What's the diff? (I do like meringue, very very much.)

[identity profile] shiny-monkey.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Meringue is egg whites, sugar and cream of tartar and dries hard, but is relatively expensive for decorating on a large scale. Fondant is sugar and water cooked to the soft-ball consistency and then whipped--it's what you'll invariably see on wedding cakes rather than a spreadable frosting--sort of the consistency of fresh Play-Doh. It comes in big buckets, and the decorator rolls it out in size and shape to fit the cake. It can be shaped into various things more easily than meringue (which can in fact do spikes, but not a lot more).

The little doodads on this cake are all made of fondant.

I like meringue, too; fondant is too sweet for me.

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
My heavens- spun fondant on that cake. Impressive.

And fondant was responsible for the Teletubby droppings as well, I guess. (That one cracked me up.)

[identity profile] shiny-monkey.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Very likely, though without any input from the decorator, it's hard to tell. They might have been candies =D

The "quilling" cake is really lovely, I think--I'm fond of lots of bright colours. All those bits were done by hand and attached to the cake individually. My head spins.

I dig on the James Bond cake, very much. One of my friends/coworkers is a cake decorator (specialising in wedding cakes, natch) and she'll love it, if she hasn't seen it already :)

[identity profile] avalonjones.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
*waves* Hi! Nice to see you again! :D

[identity profile] shiny-monkey.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi hi! :) It's been a while since I came out from the Cave :D

[identity profile] feliciter.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
The baby-themed cakes are hilarious (and unlike most of the misspellings, appear to be all-too-intentional).

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The baby bum one, though. Dear god, what were they thinking? A for execution, D- for conception.

[identity profile] rasetsunyo.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Bound foot cake, ewwwwwwwwwww. D:>

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes indeed. It took me a while to figure what was what there- since I *have* seen photos of bound feet- but once I did, ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.

[identity profile] bladderwrack.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
DDDX Catshit cake can't unsee eet T___T

The fugu cakes are actually kind of cute though.

[identity profile] xsmoonshine.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I have encountered a recipe for it. The ingredients seem tasty and the instructions highly entertaining, but I wouldn't eat it either!

[identity profile] xsmoonshine.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, I was just looking at this before I left too. They're amazing!
