Yes, yes, I know there are things that will let you archive ljs, or even turn them into hardcover books if so minded. I don't want to archive an lj. I want a way of preserving the back entries at [livejournal.com profile] paleaswater's pitas blog, because they're a treasure trove of useful insights, comments and links. And ghastly moments where she says

"How do the Chinese do uke Seimei -- well, the Chinese fandom is not exactly novel based, but I think they tend to read the relationship from the novel... There's also a charming character study which sounds completely inane if I tell it, but reads absolutely beautifully in Chinese. Seimei, peeved that Hiromasa has not visited him for sometime (rumor has it that he was enamored of another court beauty), magicks away the door when Hiromasa finally comes to visit."

And I thought I was being utterly original when I wrote "Visitors who approached the gate might find it open to their carriages, but equally they might find it shut tight and no answer to their servants' imperious calls. And it was rumoured that this lord or that who came uninvited to the estate in Tsuchimikado Lane had spent an hour following the walls of it, making the whole circuit several times, without ever coming upon an entrance at all" here.

OOh I like it when you remember stuff. It makes it easy to find things for me to read then...although in the past few days...I seem to have lost friends's posts in the flurry of postings over at [livejournal.com profile] springkink which started on the 1st of July!

I should put a filter or group them or whatever...Too lazy I guess. I don't have time to sit down and try and work out what/how to *do* that in the first place...but will read this one again later when all the chilluns are at school! ^__^ I was very nearly sucked in to reading the whole thing but...I will be late!

Thank you for sharing! Again!

Filtering seems easy enough, though I'd have to dig around for how to filter your reading. I seem to recall my problem with reading filters was that they don't activate automatically: your friends' page loads in its entirety and you have to then - HP spoilers, say.

Because of the comments, lj's are harder to archive.

I kept hearing of all these tools for archiving ljs during the Great Strikethrough Kerfuffle, whereas I don't know any for pitas blogs. What can one use for those?

Did you get the email I sent you?

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, both of them. Didn't you get the one I sent you back?

[identity profile] mvrdrk.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, your mail to me has not arrived. Yet. LOL!

I sent it to the gmail address cause that's where the collations came from. Have now sent it to the comcast one. Fingers crossed.

There's this (http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/) Firefox extension which many people love. I prefer to Furl (http://www.furl.net/members/fiatlux) pages, as you can tag the page when you save it (and search on saved tags, saved topics, and the text of the page), the saved pages are then available on any computer with an internet browser, and most importantly (IMHO) a copy of the page you're viewing is also permanently saved on Furl's servers. That last is particularly useful if you're afraid the site and/or page will disappear at some point in time. You can make topics and/or your entire Furl archive private if you like or alternatively, leave it public for people to subscribe to the links you find interesting.

I don't know of any Pitas-specific tool, but perhaps the admins over there can rec something?

The Pitas guy never answers mail, but I'll try the furl thing. It never worked well for me on IE but it seems easier on firefox. Turns out I had a bunch of pages bookmarked there from two years ago but now I'll save individual pages, just in case pitas goes belly up at some future point.

Of course, if furl goes belly up we're doomed.

(And firefox has again stopped letting me click and drag favourites around...)
