Feeling better + fic

Because I love invisible cat macros. I have 'invisible vomiting friend' from another post saved on my computer; would love to iconify it but the image gets too small.

Also yet-another-100 Demons fic (metatags: tired of this, it was a nice idea to start with, speculation, nothing to be seen here):

Kainushi

Kainushi (kau: rear/ raise an animal + nushi: master/ owner) is another translator's headbanger. The closest word we have to it is 'master' which is not only becoming outdated with respect to pets, it doesn't specify that it's an animal's master we're talking about. Owner has the same problems, besides being a colder and thinner word than kainushi. In fact, as far as I can see we don't usually say 'I am this animal's owner'; we say 'This is my dog/ cat/ whatever' or 'this whatever belongs to me.' Modern English prefers verbs, which is why it's such a bad match for Japanese which still prefers nouns.

However both kau and nushi are ideas very much present in my mind when I come to think about Kagyuu's relationship to Aoarashi, both in the Ryou stories and most specificaly in the urn story. Urn story hasn't been translated yet, of course (next volume: roll on the next volume) but the precise moment (and crux) which started this train of thought happens to have made its way into the dorama in episode 9. Urm- which see.

(I see [livejournal.com profile] luxetumbra's af-fi-condo and raise her: I was in my 50's before I realized that q.v. means quod vide and not qui vive. Trufax: as in, March of this year.)

Lovely piece. Really neat, and a great ending line.

(grins) Thank you.

I begin to think my 100 Demons otp is Aoarashi/food. Nice. :)

It really *is* the top canon pairing, edging out Tsukasa / Ritsu by several miles.

*claps hands*

Delightlful. ^__^...and Fude...I could almost taste it! Chewy octopus and all.

Actually I always hated the idea of o-nabe- soggy stuff, yuck- and especially those purple octopus tentacles trailing out of the metal cooking tins at the convenience stores. Serious gaijin culture shock there 'cause of course *our* octopus comes skinned and desuckered, wimps that we are.

Ahahaha! Hubby does too.

He says of octopi, squid, cuttlefish and prawny-type-things-with-wriggly-claw-thingies...One tastes like aliens the others look like aliens. I think he read too much Lovecraft, and it all reminds him of CHthulu.

Out of curiousity...do you cook for yourself Japanese food?

I'm a foodie at heart, being Singaporean its inherent. Which is why we will always complain about living somewhere else than Asia, where food is always guranteed to be cheap AND good. Except Japanese food which can be rather on the expensive side. *sigh*

Oh and sorry to spam your space. These random thoughts come to me erm...randomly of course.

Your husband's right about looking like aliens. The soft globbous things-- yerch. I need them neatly diced and sliced and sanitary before I'll touch them, and I'll never be a fan of octopus, which is too often like chewing rubber. The lobster-prawny ones I can deal with- hard shells and so **good**: though the little beady eyes can be off-putting. And the greenish slimy stuff as well. Mh. Yes. Well. Maybe the Jews are right at that...

I don't cook Japanese myself: in fact I'm not a great fan of Japanese cooking per se. Labour intensive for very little result is what Japanese is. I always go buh? in the manga when some housewifely type (Tohru in Fruits Basket, say, and even worse in BL when it's some *guy*) serves the perfect dinner with the raw fish sliced beautifully and the little bits of boiled vegetable arranged beautifully and three other little dishes with minimal amounts of food in them all cut up and set out beautifully. All that *work* for something that leaves you still hungry. The filling food in Japan is bastard Chinese anyway, and comfort food in Toronto is Indian (my generation anyway) so that's what I usually cook if I'm cooking.

Heheh, I love the food in general but no I don't like cooking it. As you say labour intensive for not much at all.

Yes Indian food is super yummy! I think that its a given across a broad range of generations. Well in our house anyways. ^__^

And Indian food is easy and pretty versatile to prepare, and it always tastes good.

Sorry for the digression.

hehehhe. i am thinking, more of this, and i don't need to squint at the chinese subtitles (and tsukasa/ritsu) anymore.

why, i get the feeling that Aoarashi is 'training' Ritsu in this fic?

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the dorama action can be picture-read, is the joy of the dorama action, especially the subtext bits. Manga Aoarashi hearing Kagyuu's voice from the urn and *needing* to dive in after him is more aesthetically pleasing than the dorama, if only because he turns into youkai Aoarashi before turning into dragon Aoarashi- but the junkie response is the same.

*Oh*. Now you mention it... Though I'm sure it's quite unconscious. As qwerty says, the front of A's mind is on his OTP. This is why, in the manga, one must pay attention to anything A says, however yuck-yuck bizarre it looks, that doesn't pertain to his OTP. It will often come and bite you on the ass later.
