Amazon.jp writes to inform me that it has received from me the favour of being allowed to send me the vols. 5-7 of 100 Demons in wide-han that I did them the favour of ordering on the weekend. Any time, guys, any time.

(Really, you never think twice about these constructions when you're living in the language. But come home, and suddenly the literal meaning hits you between the eyes in a sort of 'aw shuckins' way.)

What I miss from not being able to read Japanese. :) I've ordered things from amazon.jp twice now, and I'm amused enough by the random Amazon!spam coming to me in Japanese that I haven't bothered to investigate how to get myself off their mailing list. I wonder what I'm missing?

IME once you order from Amazon.anywhere they spam you without mercy and I doubt they respond to requests to be left alone. However the from line for spam is different from purely business stuff. The spam comes from somewhere@amazon.com or storenews@amazon.com or the French equivalent thereof, and I just tell my email system to delete it. Actually I could put in on my blocked senders' list and never even see it.

IIRC the Japanese stuff is exactly the same as the English stuff. Wouldn't you LOVE to buy a boxed five volume set of Famous Popular Author for Christmas?

I think my favorite spam is the sort that goes "We've noticed you've purchased volumes 2-4 of $MANGA. Would you like to purchase volume 1?"

It's the way they like to show me what stuff I've recently bought when I go to their webpage. Maybe they think I've forgotten? And then they offer me kerosene heaters and kotatsu and so on. Ahh, if only...

Okay, fine, curiosity wins. Please specify which types of animals you sacrifice, what color candles you light, which government officials you bribe to get these Amazon.jp shipments rapidly and relatively unmangled.

I seriously do not know. They *shouldn't* come as fast as they do- no, as fast as the last three (?) have come. Human error, I suppose, sending expedited when I ticked ordinary. Unmangled-- mh, what deliver service do they use in the States? The one here not only doesn't mangle, so far (touch wood) it flies below the radar of Canada Customs, ever ready to charge miniscule sums of Goods and Services Tax.

Or maybe because it's shipments from Japan and not the US or the EC. Nothing of value in those little packages...

[nothing to do with manga/Amazon, but this reminds me of a favorite colloquialism: do me the favor of going and dying, right now! (it really sounds good in Dialect!)]

Samurai say much the same, except phrased as 'I will receive the favour of you dying', using the nearly-equals receive of course.

How far does ch 14 take you? And of course you really have to hear the stuff in context to get a feel for who uses what when and what's meant by 'respectful' and 'polite.' Is why God made raw anime, I always figure.
