Things that work

ETA: joyfulness from the wank communities, where someone dismisses a twit thusly: "At this point our man prematurely closes off the discussion threads like a brat and Xerne and I can't get our stab on. Oh well. Nothing would have come of it anyway. Fighting with this guy is like warring with that humongous baby in Spirited Away."

Bifocal silicon lenses. They're thicker than the usual disposibles so I'm not always losing them when I put them in their cases or tearing them when getting them out of my dry eyes. They're wetter so they don't keep trying to crawl off my eyes thus rendering me blind. And they let me read. Finally, a bifocal lens that works. (Which is good, because bifocal glasses don't.) I've been sitting here translating all evening, remembering the old days of eyestrain when I had to use +2.50 reading glasses with my lenses in order to see the Japanese. I can read *manga* without reading glasses. It's a miracle.

Oh, and google. Let me praise google again.

Lord So-and-so lives near the god-spring-garden in Kyoto? Google god-spring-garden and it not only gives you the proper reading, it tells you that the god-spring-garden is built just south of the palace and has a pond so that the dragon energies coming in from the mountains to the north-east have a place to stop and drink and thus don't simply disappear into the 'dragon hole', they get to hang around at the 'dragon water mouth.' "If there are no ponds the dragons run away." So simple. The deity enshrined in the middle of the pond is called the Happy Woman Dragon King, which is cool.

Because he makes the women happy or he is actually a happy woman or...?

Fodder for much pleasant speculation.

I didn't know you could have bifocal CONTACT lenses. Heheh! I guess these are good things to know. I think I am actually going to need some soon. Glasses though for me.

I wore contacts for a short two years and decided they weren't me at all. I think I prefer to look at world from the relative safety of my glasses. Umm does that sound a little odd? The contacts made people feel/seem a little close.

So is that a Happy Woman because she gets to umm..hang out with the Dragon King(s)? Yeah that would be cool. (Has visions of a statue of a Lady with Whiskey and Soda fountain with Dragon perched on outstretched hand. Yep Happy!)

ps- just read the S7 story on the 'mjj files' as I call 'em. I love the little notes you always include about their names and things! may I refer them to some folk whom I know will be interested? Will understand if you want to keep them private.

Thanks and enjoy your Sunday! must go and rescue hubby from marauding children. ^_^

Thanks. ^_^ Yes well, trying to convey in English what would be obvious in Japanese- that Katsushirou's new name incorporates the first kanji of Kyuuzou's- is an exercise in frustration. I do my best.

By all means, pass the url on. I operate by word of mouth rather than word of archive. That way I don't know who's reading me unless they say, which for various reasons works best for me.

I was wondering what you meant there at first. Then I read it again andthen the footnote again. I had to sit for some minutes, then I got it! Duh! Sorry. Nothing to do with your explanation, just it took a few goes before it sank in! Aah! the power of brain! ^__^

I had glasses till I was 30 and never wanted to go back. Peripheral vision, how sweet it is. Bicycling in the rain, no longer an exercise in Russian roulette. No more instant blindness when coming in from the cold- not a problem in Little Red Dot, agreed, but I get the same symptoms putting glasses on after a shower or even on a muggy day. Now I dislike the sensation of the world at a distance. The day hasn't begun until my lenses are in, which is why this summer was so frustrating because putting them in (and keeping them there) was impossible.

These Daoist-Shinto-whatever deities are never quite what they sound, alas. The ones in the current story are The high dragon god and The dark dragon god- cause one lives on the hills and the other in the valleys, dohh. There's probably a similar explanation for the Happy Woman Dragon King, but the whiskey and soda fountain and the dragon sporting in its depths will do for now.

Praise Odin/Jade Emperor/BUddha for contact lenses! Goodbye to the throbbing pain on the bridge of the nose too. Also, instant blindness applies regardless of latitude, on account of air-con in cars or trains anyway.

...which is why this summer was so frustrating because putting them in (and keeping them there) was impossible.

You can try the extended-wear type, which can be left in up to 24 hours. Mine is regular wear, and advices on duration of wear varies (anything from 8 to 12 hours), but I have been okay with 16 hours (daily) for 17 years. I suppose that's because my eyes are dumb/numb (/pats eyes), don't have the level of sensitivity possessed by the New Metro-something Guy - I've seen many compatriots give up contact lenses along the way - dryness, discomfort, etc.
