I find myself in agreement with the head of the Conservative Party.

He's absolutely right. Those damned things don't stay in. No matter how many I buy I always wind up looking callously indifferent to Nov.11 when even the 20-something striplings are wearing them.

Hmm. Why wouldn't they stay in? Here, they're made of crepe paper or paper mache with a twisty, paper-covered green wire stem. You just loop and twist the wire through a convenient buttonhole or around a button. (Mine's usually firmly in place months later. <-- absent minded). Are yours different in some way?

Twisty wire stems makes sense. Here they're fuzzy shellac-backed paper, no stems, affixed by a straight pin stuck through the centre of the flower and thence through the lapel of your coat. *Naturally* the things work loose, like every time you take off your coat.

My other beef is that here they're hard to find. Gotta trawl the subway stations for them.
