Why is there no LJ community called hormones_suck? I would so be in to posting there.

The drawback of what I must now think was a heavily cut version of Count of Monte Cristo (snotty: from 1200 pages was it? to 560) is not being sure if new developments in Gankutsu-oh are mere twists on the novel's settei or totally new innovations. For all I know Dumas' main character too suffered from some progressive disease that the translator left out because hell, by novel's end it's a non-issue. I trust not. Having neat coloured diagrams on your skin and sprouting four new eyes during your fits suggests there's something quite basically different about Gankutsu-oh, like y'know being an alien. How he got to be an alien is the question, of course, cause the Dantès backstory seems intact, and so evidently is Haydee's-- somehow, since Haydee too is presented as not quite human. (Someone needs to tell anime news network that no matter what the katakana says or what it sounds like in the mouths of the VAs, her name is not Ed.)

You make this sound quite intriguing.

Well, it *looks* quite intriguing, but the trouble with the anime's graphic style is a certain umm lack of clarity in the presentation of details. Bands of the count's face go a fuchsia colour, if I'm remembering correctly, with what looks like a pair of eyes in each band. Possibly this is meant to convey that he's blushing deeply and batting his eyelashes very quickly. Who knows?

Hm, that sounds a bit less appealing.

Unless he's actually a disguised alien? (Stranger things have happened in anime . . .)

So why's a disguised got it in for D'Anglars and Morcerf and them? Unless he sold his humanity to Alien Beings for the super powers that would bring him revenge... Oh no! Wait! The Abbe's treasure was actually an artifact from an ancient alien culture that provides Sooper Powers but eats its user's physical body! Does this explain why the Count is blue and has fangs and occasionally bites people on the neck?

Definitely. In fact, this artifact (which must be technology from the ancient alien culture) is the _source_ of vampire legends, having caused people to go round biting other people on the neck in the past due to irretrievable genetic alterations while attempting to alter nearby human DNA to the ancestral alien pattern.
