Needle in a haystack

Somebody was talking about Robin Hobb recently in their lj. I have the notion that Somebody is Somebody Else's lj friend, though she could be one of mine, since I also encounter mine on other people's lists. It's not who I thought it was- Sabina's RL friend Erin- nor any of the usual suspects here (though pellaz, for some reason I can't read your lj entries except on my fl, which makes checking hard.) Someone was saying something to the really fuzzily recalled effect that Hobb's novels suggest a different kind of being, not in their characters but in the worlds themselves. If this rings bells with anybody, please tell me who it was. I hate these half-remembered things that one might in fact have hallucinated or dreamed.

August, huh? The amazing collapsible time-sense is mine. Yes it was you, and why I remember seeing it in a friends' column I don't know. Alas that I bought the Fool series over the two earlier ones, just because yawn ships and pirates and yawn kings and assassins. I hope to find the radically alien soon. (Drat, I could have had dragons, and all I got are these lousy info dumps. Which sound intriguing nonetheless. Though for alien worldbuilding from familiar elements, I'll take Gene Wolfe's torturer series any day.)

Will send you the Liveship series then, along with any Onmyoji I find. I think you'll find the concept intriguing after the Rainy Willow stories. Though personally I'd browse through the first book to find out what's going on, skip the second, and read the third.
