Because I come from the Before Times I have all sorts of stationery dating from the 70s and 80s or even before. It's usually envelopes, because I was most prolix in my letter-writing days. A lot if it is from France which makes, or made, lovely writing paper with a linen finish, and envelopes with patterned lining to match, and some of it I know was scented as well. Memory says my mother brought it back from her trips abroad, but memory is lying as usual, because she only went on one visit to Europe without us, in 1967, and I had this paper earlier than that.

In any case, I have a box of envelopes that I use for the tips I give to delivery people- restaurants and groceries and the like. I've been doing this for sixteen months now at the rate of once or twice a week, and you'd think I'd be reaching the bottom of the stash by now. But there always seems to be more, though eventually I'll have to use the elegant ones. But I see they still make the Florentine pattern I bought when I was 14:

That's lovely. I still have a lot of Smythson writing paper and envelopes, and some really nice Japanese washi-paper notepaper too. Indian companies still make both sealing-wax and writing-slates and slate pens, if you want some of those...I have a couple, useful for kitchen shopping lists and messages.

My shopping lists have to go on paper magnetized to the fridge so that I can write what I need right away before I forget, and then take the list to the store with me. If I had a kitchen slate I'd lose it in the clutter. And the chalk as well. But yes, much better for the environment to have a reusable.

Oh. Slates: 'Minimum order quantity 50 pieces.' Maybe not, then.

I suppose a blackboard and chalk would do, though asthmatics might need a mask for the chalk dust...

Not an asthmatic, fortunately, but chalk dust does get everywhere.

Oh that's a gorgeous stationary set! I keep wanting to buy more even though I have layers of the stuff from when I lived in and later visited Japan.

Oh yes, I have Japanese binsen too from a quarter century ago. Though I did go through most of the good stuff in the early oughties when I was writing to Japanese people. The stacks of fannish notepaper however are still stacks, since some of it is very NSFW.

Lovely but of limited use. I no longer have the patience to write longhand and my handwriting has deteriorated in consequence.
