Did Kipling really write an inordinate number of weird tales or is it just that this collection has them all? The illustration on the spine is The Phantom Rickshaw, and so far there's also "They" and The Mark of the Beast and The House Surgeon and The Return of Imray.  (But not, luckily, A Madonna of the Trenches, or The Luck House either.) Somehow I thought Kipling had written book after book about the army in India, but evidently not.

Kipling left India in his early twenties- and there aren't that many stories about the Indian army. A lot of his stories have paranormal elements- even when they're not out and out weird. Does your collection contain "The Dog Hervey"- a very peculiar story about what may or may not be witchcraft?

It may be that the collections I have just happened to include a lot of India-set stories, even if they weren't specifically about the army.

He wrote a lot of short stories that I would consider science fiction, too.

Really? I haven't come across any of those unless my weird overlaps your science fiction. Can you think of any titles offhand?

"With The Night Mail" and " As Easy As ABC" are the ones that come to mind. Maybe "The Eye of Allah" too.
