Lord, what an achey day. Dank, cold, grey. You know, Toronto. This is going to be a long winter.

Two nice things to report. Had to cab it to acupuncture. If I wonder where those lost 7 kg came off of, as I see no great diference when I look in the mirror, I need wonder no more. I can now find the clip for the seatbelt easy no problem. No Kama Sutra contortions required.

And there was a slender parcel in the mailbox when I got back. I'm expecting boots and this was not those. No, it was Hunded Demons 28, taking only six weeks to arrive airmail from Japan, not 2.5 months like the last time. Is also the 25th anniversary of same. Eheu fugaces...

What is Hundred Demons 28?

A manga series I've been following since ohh 2003 or so, vol 28 of which just came out. Supernatural goings on in and around the family of a famous writer of ghost stories. Writer is long dead, having worn himself out consorting with youkai. Youkai are still around, pestering the psychic grandson, who ignores them, and his uncle, who doesn't. Plus various weird tales.

That sounds tremendously cool. Have you read Vivian Shaw's Dr Greta Helsing trilogy? Quite similar set-up but in London. Very funny, but with depth underneath. Sort of like Diana Wynne Jones for adults.

Yes, I've read them all. They're much more western, of course, but I like how she distinguishes among the various kinds of vampire according to which author produced them, though of course she doesn't say that.

100 Demons is more on the weird tales and people's ghosts line, though kitsune and dragons do show up as well. Her youkai are slightly more elegant than tradition has them, but that's because her style is, as you may see
