 Pepys is always writing 'Lay late abed' (except when he's getting up at 4 a.m. to be somewhere downriver at 8) and I fully sympathize with the feeling. Lay late abed today, reveling in the under covers warmth while the AC blew coolness into the bedroom, and dreamed a detailed bunch of things which the waking mind won't hold onto. But one was definitely incandescens coming to dinner at not!Bedford, bearing gifts, only my sibs had somehow eaten most of the food I was planning to serve and I had to order more. Sorry it turned into a frustration dream but it was nice while it lasted.

I've long known that quarantine would be easier if I were still writing fanfic and had that other world to escape into. So I read some of my old fics, from 15 or 20 years ago (!) to take me Elsewhere, as I read old LJ entries from ten years back, and that does me for a while.

To be at home and still having to be up early for work. The worst of both worlds.

Some of my coworkers who used to have to push themselves harder (including travel time) are beginning to appreciate the pleasures of getting up later. In particular, one of them who used to get into work at 8am and finish at 4pm, and had to commute to do it, is now very much appreciating the extra hour or so in bed . . .

It's nice of you to be happy for your fellow workers who are spared the deadly commute. Being at work for 8 is my idea of torture, also unnecessary unless you're dealing with people on the other side of the world, like stock market exchanges. But an in-country outfit like the NHS? Are these work hours necessary?

Definitely not necessary - but our team leader was and is happy if we want to adjust our work hours earlier or later, as long as core hours are covered. My colleague liked and likes being able to get off work at 4pm, and didn't mind starting early. I'm very much *not* a morning person, and I usually work 9.30 to 5.30, or sometimes 10 to 6. Coffee is my friend.
