Russia is planning to temporarily disconnect itself from the Internet in order to satisfy a bill in its parliament requiring that the country and its Internet service providers take steps to give Russia greater sovereignty over its Internet

As someone said, Don't be surprised if LJ doesn't work one of these days. Not that I'm ever surprised when LJ doesn't work...

Of course, it may come back with the rest of the Russian internet, but I do wish I'd backed up my LJ when the backing up program worked. As for comms, yes, well... gone with the wind.

Well, it may come back even if it disappears for a while. But I wished I'd backed up LJ when I had a computer that could handle it.

Dreamwidth does let you copy your lj across, for what it's worth.

I'll look into this. But unless I can specify dates, I'd be double posting, with one set of comments deleted. Unless the DW transfer doesn't save comments. Shall check.

I'm not sure about double-posting each time - I think Beth has some way of doing it, but I just do it manually, copying and pasting. But DW will also let you copy all your previous lj entries across into your new DW account, memories and all, so you can save previous stuff that way.

I... didn't even know you had a DW account? Thought you were a last stubborn holdout. But the knowledge eases my mind somewhat. I'd be very sad to lose your journal.

I post the same on there as I do on here - I started that journal a year or so ago, when things started looking shaky, because like you, I didn't want to lose past stuff. :)
