tumblr discussion of Cohen's Hallelujah in context.

Since I only know the song in its original avatar on Various Positions, and the few covers I've heard were all whine whine whine without the sardonic edge, I didn't realize people left the last verses off. The sense of Cohen talking to a lover is muted in that first version- no cold and broken hallelujahs, no remember when I moved in yous, certainly no Christian holy doves ugh Lenny what were you thinking of- so the primary interlocutor sems to be God himself. And that, frankly, is how I like it.

(I have a tumblr account now. People, you don't need to tell anyone how to go from tumblr to DW, you nee the exact opposite; because all I see are 'posts recommended for you' and no way to unfollow people I've followed by accident. Really annoying interface in that wakamono 'press a few buttons and see how it works' way that computer developers thrust on us generations ago. 'No one read the manuals so we won't have one. Problems? Just google it.' Shakes cane- argh.)

That's interesting about the song. I've never cared one way or the other about it (I totally don't understand why so many people are crazy about it), but this makes it way more interesting.

You unfollow by going to their page and clicking the top right icons. I think clicking on the little person icon will bring up the unfollow if it isn't already displayed. You'll also find yourself picking up a ton of porn followers. You block them by going to the list of your followers and hovering over them till the block icon shows up. If you click on them, you get to see the porn. There's no such thing as 'private' there, so I use is mainly for stalking other people. :)

Ok, now I see how to unfollow. Now how do I find who's following me? Why isn't there the equivalent of LJ's sidebar and user profile? Whyyyy do they make it so haaard??

On your own page, under the little person icon on the top right is a list of your "blogs" and under that is an entry called Followers. Click on that. This is a user interface designed by chaos.

All is revealed. Bref, do not use the app. Go from a browser and all the icons are where they ought to be and nothing appears but the people I'm following.

Still designed by chaos but much less chaotic than the app.

Oh, yeah. The app is completely incompetent.

Ugh! Tell me about ... I also have one mainly to stalk too since with tumblr you don't really have to interact. Which is sort of nice in a way and also sad in others. but meh ...

*HUGS EVERyONE!!!!* I miss you all by the way! - so yes saying hi! AND commenting to two people at once - whoa! I feel so accomplished ... except I should sleep too since I have to go to work in the morning.

Much love and hugs.

Hi there. Glad to hear you're surviving.

How does one stalk on tumblr, though? There's nothing but pics and reposts as far as I can see. Nowhere near as personal as LJ or DW.
