When I walked down to the bathroom this morning, I could see white out the study window. Snow overnight on the rooftops. When I returned half an hour later with my breakfast, it had vanished completely. Some time later, when I decided to get my books back to the library before the forecast return of winter later this week, it was hailing: little round balls bouncing  on the roof.  So I ensconced myself on the sofa, at which the sun came out. The hail didn't wet the sidewalks much, so off to the library in shoes I went.

And on the way there a woman pushing a yuppie stroller called my name. It was E's mom from 30 years ago, taking her grand-daughter out for a walk. And very nice too,  catching up. I've seen C more recently than that, of course, but not too recently: maybe two decades instead of three. Didn't even know E was married, supposing she is. How time flies when you grow old.

The library now has holds activated again: hundreds of books put into storage when the site went down are now being sent to their respective branches.  Don't know if I have any active holds: the catalogue and personal accounts are still in limbo. It seems an age since they were active, though it's only been three and a half months at a season when I don't normally get to the library anyway. But this is an unusual winter that's seen me in shoes for most of it and trotting down to Bloor on the regular, so it feels odd not to have the library accessible.
