Saturday, July 30th, 2022 07:53 pmThe Graun had an opinion piece about the 2012 Olympics opening ceremonies, of which I only knew the Queen parachuting into the stadium. So I spent 90 minutes this morning in 2012 watching the lovely batshit show. Pleased that Isembard Brunel figured so prominently among the top-hatted kings of industry (none of whom were black, sorry) who turned England's green and pleasant land into a Mordor of satanic mills. At least Brunel did something worthwhile. If you want to know how out of the mainstream I am, I didn't recognise that he was Kenneth Branagh. Also didn't recognise any of the Sex Pistols music; conclude I didn't miss anything there.
ETA no actually, I was thinking of Bazalgette. Brunel was well enough in his way, but Bazalgette did actual good.
Gone is gone and over is over, said whatever star it was who just turned 100. I still haven't learned that, because I wish 2012 would come back again. Or at least, that the fall of 2012 would come back again. It won't, so I went and cut down vines in the back yard instead. I thought today, like yesterday, was a lovely warm dry summer day : temps in the low 20s, light breeze, good sleeping weather. But I came in after half an hour completely soaked. Still July in TO.
